Arcel, thank you for the offer. Here goes: My greatgrandmother was Mary Matilda Holt (1864-1955). Her parents were Thomas C. Holt and Mary Matilda Sawyer. He was reputed to be a doctor. The Holt family home is just north of the Va./NC line on highway 168. MMHolt was born in that house, so she was born in Va. She married Joseph Bailey and they lived in the St. Brides area of what is now Chesapeake VA, but I believe Dr. Holt's medical practice was in Currituck County, NC somewhere. Mary Matilda Sawyer would have been born no later than 1830, since her daughter MMHolt was born 1864. Her father was Daivd Temple Sawyer. Her mother was Mary Matilda Lamb (1808-1903). That is all I have on my Sawyer line, which is why it is a little frustrating. My father told me that as a child he used to go and stay at Tull's Creek in Currituck County, NC, with his relatives. My dad was born in 1915, and I am sure he spent a lot of time with his grandmother MMHolt, whom I suppose would have had Sawyer relatives on her mother's side in the Tull's Creek area. I have lots of info on my Lamb line. They arrived in the Mass Bay Colony with governor Winthrop in 1630 and a greatgrandson, Thomas Lamb, migrated to Currituck Co. NC in the 1730's. There are a bunch of Lamb's in NC, but I am not related to many of them because my Lamb line was a transplant. Thomas Lamb's son Gideon was a Colonel in the NC Line. I would love it if you can connect my MMSawyer and her father David Temple Sawyer to anyone. Most families trace surname lines, but we have a Mary Matilda line. Mary Matilda Lamb > Mary Matilda Sawyer > Mary Matilda Holt > Mary Matilda Bailey > Evelyn Lassiter > Mary Matilda Powell. Doubt that there will be anymore. My grandmother broke the chain and then my Aunt Evelyn tried to restart it. Would love to have a little info on MMSawyer to fill in. Thanks for your interest. jay ----- Original Message ----- From: "Arcel Sawyer" <searching3@nc.rr.com> To: <SAWYER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, February 04, 2005 4:56 AM Subject: Re: [SAWYER] Sawyers-origins, those in New Hampshire > Jay I have quite a bit of info on the Sawyers from 1690s thru about 1740s > in > Eastern N.C. > E mail me with the beginning of your line, maybe I have some info. > Arcell Sawyer > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Jay Lassiter" <jaylassiter@cox.net> > To: <SAWYER-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Thursday, February 03, 2005 10:01 PM > Subject: Re: [SAWYER] Sawyers-origins, those in New Hampshire > > >> Hi.
