Don't have any birth dates on him, but went into business with brother (half-brother, maybe), Benjamin Lopez in 1922 (Lopez Funeral Home). Lopez died in 1931. Business taken over by Sawyer's sons, Benjamin F. Sawyer and Warren Sawyer. Benjamin died in 1949. Anything you can find would help! >> Hi, I find a Benjamin Franklin Sawyer death cert. in 1949 vol. 1376-# 20817 on a death index fiche at the Miami Public Library. Not sure if you knew his middle name. Did you see on Rootsweb , the Monroe County WW1 Draft cards? There is a George Franklin Sawyer born 25 Nov. 188?, also says he is a naturalized citizen. Now, no clue if this is yours, but it is a George. 1900 Census shows a George Sawyer born 1889 and 11 years old. Son of a William and Mary Sawyer. At that time mother Mary shows having 5 kids and they are all listed, no Ben Lopez. Another on 1900 census. George Sawyer born 1880 in Bahamas came here in 1881, occupation Cigar Maker. A Leon Barsal aged 15, born 1884 in Florida is shown after George and is listed as adopted son. Parents are a John & Charlotte Sawyer. I looked for Lopez neighbors on my copies, no luck. I've gone through the 1870 and 1900 census for Monroe County. I may have missed some, there are some bad places on the film. I'll keep your note as I want to look at the other census years and if anything shows, I'll holler. Judi Ferguson Sawyer
