Notes for ANN SPENCE NOT PROVEN: IGA record F846302 sheet 34 Also: On April 6, 1739, Alexander witnessed a deed for his brother, Truman, who had bought land from Charles Sawyer, husband of their cousin Anne (daughter of John Spence) (4). Four days later, he witnessed a second deed in which his brother Robert and Robert's wife, Anne, sold land along the Pasquotank to Caleb Sawyer (5). Truman acquired other land in the area, including 100 acres "lying on the NW side of the White Oak Branch" purchased from Charles & Anne Sawyer on 6 April 1739 (3). With Thomas Sawyer, Truman and his wife Tamer sold 50 acres to Daniel Sawyer for 40 shillings on April 10, 1739 (the land being out of an 850 acre patent granted to James McDaniel in 1738)(4) and 100 acres on the northeast side of both White Oak Branch and the Pasquotank to Richard Sawyer for 45 pounds on Apgil 18, 1741 (5). Given the language of these various deeds, it is possible that both Tamer and brother Robert Spence's wife, Anne, were daughters of Thomas Sawyer. It is interesting to note that Daniel Sawyer's 1749 will mentions a daughter named "Taymer" (6), who could have been named for Truman's wife.
