    1. [SAWYER] Re: SAWYER-D Digest V00 #22
    2. Hi, I have an Elijah Sawyer in my family line. He was shown on the 1870 census of Bangor, Franklin County, New York. He was listed as age 32, farmer, born in Canada. He was married to a Lamira, 26,housekkper, born in New York. Their children are listed: Elmer, 6, born circa 1864; Ely (short for Elijah?), 4, born circa 1866; Edson, 2, born circa 1868;and Edith, 8 months, probably born in either 1868 or 1869.. The Elijah listed first had a brother named Francis Sawyer whom I believe he was married to either a Mary Brothers or a Mary-Madeleine Brothers. Francis's children were Francis Allen (my maternal grandfather) and Mary. I have lots of information about Francis's line. On microfile #1292041, entitled "New York Cemeteries--Malone, Franklin County, New York" are these Sawyers: Sawyer, Eli, born 1866, died 1962 Sawyer, Sarah Aldrich, born 1872, died 1922 Sawyer, Elmer E., born 1964, died 1885 Sawyer, Lemira, born 11843, died 1924 (note in the census her name is spelled "Lamira" However, I had a maternal aunt that was named Lemira Irmina Sawyer so I suppose she could have been named after this person and the census taker mispelled the name) Sawyer, Elizah, born 1837, died 1919 Laura, born July 12, 1896, died August 08, 1896 Another thought: The Elizah listed above as being born in 1937 might have been my great-uncle Elijah or that person might have been a sister to Elijah and Francis. What do you think? Elizah's birth date doesn't cooincide with Elijah's so they may have been two different individuals. My Francis Allen Sawyer and his parents eventually migrated to Rush City, Minnesota and farmed there then immigrated to Rossendale, Manitoba and farmed there until sometime after his parents' deaths. The "ELY" named above married Sarah Aldrich. I guess it's possible that the Laura mentioned above could have been their daughter, but I am not certain of this. Let me know if anything abive connects with any of your research. Hoping we can find a link, Warm regards, Marilyn Bennett Echols
