She was the fourth of ten children born to Albert and Mabel Nichols. The family moved to Gilbert in 1918. She married John Sawyer July 21, 1929 in the Gilbert Methodist Church. She was a long time member of that church and served five terms as president of the woman's organization, twenty six years as wedding hostess and, with John, twenty years as youth leader. Growing flowers was her passion and with John's help they made their home a showplace on Elliott Road. She was also an active member of many civic and service organizations and received many plaques and awards for her dedication. She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Darrell and Dorothy, Keith and Amy Jo and Dean and Sheri; a sister Fay Bond; six grandchildren; and ten great- grandchildren.
