What a wonderful daughter you must be !! Life is so very, very short and when a mother does have to give up a child, it just has to be one of the worst days inthe life of a mother. It is normally done because they are either unable to care for the child or afraid that something worse is going to happen. You are looking at such a young age. I have dealing with a lady who is Around 50 & we just located her mom, who is now 96 yrs. old and in a nursing home. If ony we could have found her a few years ago, it would have made such a difference. Whatever you do, do not give up hope!! Enlisted at Carthage Miss. Shows he was discharged for disability August 16, 186_. I guess the same year since it was for one year. Company Muster Roll shows Capt. Jas. M. Also list Carthage as place he enlisted at the bottom has his age at time was 47 and list him as present in the remarks. Rose, I found the news paper article it is from a local publication 'Looking Back' Genealogical Abstracts from "The Carthaginian" Leake County, Mississippi 1872-1900 by Regina Hines Ellison, CGRS. Grice, Emma Grice and Carolina Grice, New Hope Post Office, Pike County, Ala., commanded to appear the first Monday in April 1887 in the estate of M.G. Hughes, W.R. Lacey, administrator. That is it! We know it's our people... we also know if the court sent the notice to the above address it went to the wrong state. It should have said Arkansas. I'm assuming Carolina is Carrie? I remember a story my father's sister-in-law (Aunt Grace wife of Otis Smith) repeated. The family received a notice from Mississippi to come to Mississippi regarding Carrie Grice's family. I can't remember if they went and couldn't prove lineage? Or they didn't receive notice in time?? Who is M.G. Hughes.... who is W.R. Lacey, administrator? The Mississippi Department of Archives and History sent me 1870 Census. Taken in the County of Leake, Post Office Conway, June 2, 1870, It list head of house hold as: Grice C.M. age 34 Female (White) Occupation keeping house. Is P.M. dead? Coalson her husband of the second part... can't read rest, surely I have a better copy of this somewhere. Interesting here Martha Sawyer married a Chatham as did our CAMatilda did. I have in notes (Sawyer sisters married Chatham Brothers). This is the first time I have ever seen P.M.'s name spelled out.... could be Michael. I think that's about all I have in this box. :-) and I have a busy day tomorrow. Oh, I wanted to answer your question as to the burial place of Stancil Pickens Grice. No, but it's probably around Smithville, Ok. The old Grice homestead was there around Smithville, Octavia, there is another small wide spot in the road called (?) that's right there I cant think of the name. They might have buried him in Hatfield, AR.

I wouldn't mind scanning in the photo and getting it to somebody who might be family. Also, if Sherman and my father-in-law were friends it would be interesting to know if there are any stories to be told.
Does anyone have proof of the death of Revolutionary War veteran Nathaniel Sawyer 1749-1821. I belive he's buried in E. Limington. He may be listed in "Old Graveyard Records of Revolutionary War Veterans from Maine", but I don't have access to that book. Dorrie in Lexington, MA

Does anyone have any information on the family below and I do not know the relationship. Thanks: Arcell Sawyer Elisha Sawyer, son of William and Sarah and a Willis Sawyer.
I have researched the early Sawyer's in the Chowan and Pasquotank area from about 1680 to about 1750 and I have pulled a lot of info from the archives. I am wondering if you are talking about the John Sawyer line in Pasquotank, that went into I believe Illinois. I believe an Elisha Sawyer was in this line. Sorry my computer crashed and everything is on disc. I have not worked on any eastern N. C. Sawyers for a few years. I am looking for a connection for a John Sawyer who is found in Onslow County 1750s or so with Williams and Powells. Also I believe in Duplin County, but records may be found in other counties. Of course these Powells probably do trace back to the eastern N. C. areas. Have not gotten that far as yet.
