I have a John Sawyer married to Priscilla Keel who had a son John Sawyer. Is this the same John who married Priscilla "McPherson?" Priscilla Keel's John Sawyer's father was William Sawyer who married Elizabeth Hancock. Hope you will post your info, Arcell. Just scanned and sent you some info, probably you already have regarding John and Priscilla McPherson Sawyer, eastern N. C. and the relationship to Capt. William Sawyer. This John Sawyer died ab.t 1808. The Halstead lineages go back to Henry Halstead. Evidently the wife of Capt. Wm. Sawyer and supposedly wife was Letitia Wilkins which goes back to Halstead. This is unresearched by myself as I have not gotten ahead in time researching this far as yet. John Sawyer will was filed in 1713. ( but I think it was never probated as I remember.) (Please correct me if I am wrong.) Sons were Robert, John, Solomon and Thomas and each son received a planation on Sawyer's creek at the Plank Bridge and joined Gumberry Swanp according to the land grant. John Sawyer (Jr) the son of John Sawyer died in 1743, Pasquotank (Camden Co.). Sons were John, Tulle, Stephen and Willia. Daughters Grace and Sarah. John and Tulle received plantation called Gumberry. Stephen and William received land in Currituck known as Peter's Ridge. Tulle son of John (Jr.) died in Currituck Co. 1787. His sons were John, William and William. Probably daughters were Cloey Winbery and Nancy Hast/Holt. Tulle gave his son, John a plantation and land on the north side of Leach Rhods Mill pond in Camden. Willis Received the plantation and land that Tulle purchased from John Winbery in Camden. John and Willis were given Tulle's "sailing boat". William received the plantation and land, on the road, in Camden, Wife was Sarah. John Sawyer, the son of Tulle lived in Currituck County.and was obviously a ship captain. This John did not leave a will and no division of property in Currituck, Camden or Pasquotank has been found. The name John Sawyer appears in the first census of 1790. In 1799 John, Willis and William (sons of Tulle) sold a piece of mutually owned property in Currituck which establishes they were all alive at that point. It appears the missing link is Tulle's son, John who was the father of Capt. William Sawyer and his brother Lemuel (referred to in a will and a deed) It is likely that this John Sawyer and Priscilla McPerson had a daughter Betsey Sawyer taken from and old Burbage/Halston Bible as Betsey married nathan Halstead. A Bible which was owned by the late Mag Sawyer documents, John, his wife and his family. In the bible states that John died in 1808 and wife Priscilla (daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth McPherson died in 1838. Their sons were Capt. William born 1781 and Lemuel bo! rn 1790 and daughters were Sarah Sawyer Overton, Nancy Sawyer Perkins and Elizabeth "Betsey" Sawyer Halstead. Author states verbally "I was told there were two other sons, but was not given their names. In 1800 Capt. William Sawyer would have been about 19 years old and probably lived at sea that his father John, had inherited from his father Tulle. Tulle's son, Willis was also a ship boat captain and is in the 1790 and 1800 census of Cemden Co.. There is a divorce settlement recorded between dinah and Willis Sawyer Deed Book 1. Willis died in 1808 and his will is in Bertie County. Article continues: On front, copied and donated anonymously 1999 Author is Frances Sawyer Webster The John Sawyer who went into Edgefield District South Carolina was born abt. 1729 and died in 1780s and was not married to Priscilla McPherson of the N.C. There was indeed a Priscilla McPherson and John Sawyer but this was a later John and Priscilla than the John and Priscilla that ended up in Edgefield Dist., S.C. The John Sawyer who died in Edgefield 1780s and the John Sawyer and Priscilla in Eastern N. C. did not die until after 1800. I will try to clear this up, later this evening. Arcell Sawyer

Joe, We have some info on Rachel Sawyer, b. 1797 in SC, died unknown. She married Green Berry Woolley in 1812 in Edgefield Co., SC. He was the son of Shadrack Woolley and Margaret (Unknown). He was born 1794 in Edgefield Co., SC and died 1869 in Perry Co., AL. Their children were: Wayman Woolley Caroline Woolley, b. abt. 1813 Richard Henry Woolley, b. 1/25/1822, d. 1/27/1881. (we have additional info on Richard) We have nothing more on Caroline, would appreciate if you would share. Rachel was the daughter of George Sawyer and Elizabeth Bird (his first wife) and the sister of William Early Sawyer (my GGG Grandfather), we have extensive data on his downline. We also have a good deal of info on her Grandfather and Grandmother, if you are interested. Good luck, Robert Sawyer
Hello, friends. My GxGM was Rachel SAWYER, b. (in Edgefield Co., SC?) in 1796. In ca. 1812, in Edgefield, she was married to Greenberry WOOLLEY, and their daughter was Caroline WOOLLEY, b. ca. 1813, but where?? Caroline was married in Perry Co., AL., to Jeremiah DUKE on Jan.14, 1836, in Perry Co. Who were the parents of Rachel SAWYER? Was she born in Edgefield Co., or at some other location?? Thanks for any help!! Joe DUKE ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----
Info regarding Thomas Price, and it appears that Michael MacDaniel later married the Jean MacDaniel. Evidently Jean MacDaniel died and Daniel Phillips eventually returned to Virginia. I believe Phillips was an early sheriff in the area. _____________ Let me clarify the above. In the will of Thomas Price - after I viewed the original will on line: Michael McDaniel was named as Godson and was given Plantation a mare and a gun. John Sayor was given a gun, John Humprhey and Mary were given items and JOAN McDaniel was given item or items. The name of John Sayor was signed SAYOR but mark is the Double H as was seen the the John Sawyer signature. Will was signed in 1689. Evidently probated in 1696. I have the court case for the below incidence. Evidently Michael McDaniel died and eventually Joan McDaniel married Daniel Phillips. Within a short time she also died after her marriage to Daniel Phillips. Daniel Phillips after the death of Joan McDaniel Phillips tried to claim the land that came to Joan McDaniel (evidently through her marriage to Michael McDaniel) through a court case. Phillips only received 1/3 of the land. He later sold this land and returned to Virginia. The signature on the Thomas Price will of John Sayor is the same same as on the later John Sawyer will in 1690s and I believe that it was Michael on this list that said the signature was also the same on the will of John Sawyer 1713. Just to clarify. There was a headright for a John Sawyer in 1680 to Pasquotank.
