    1. Re: [SAWYER] "DNA"(My Sawyer's)
    2. Hi Gang and Janet, My Sawyer line is direct from William Sawyer whom arrived in Salem, Mass. - and married Ruth Bitfeld. William help found the Town of (West) Newbury and there is a plaque there with his name on it. I, and my sister in law, drove to all the places that our line lived in about 25 years ago. In Newburyport we found a record that stated William came from Bedfordshire, Co. England. We tramp around on Sawyer Hill,Cemetary followed the dirt road and washed out bridge where the "Sawyer House" was and so on. Anyway, my line is thus; !. William Sawyer (Ruth Bitfield) 2. Lt. Samuel Sawyer (Mary Emery) 3. Samuel Sawyer (Abigail Goodridge) 4. Edmund Sawyer (Sarah Rowell) 5. Joseph Sawyer (Judith Kelly) 6. Joseph Sawyer (Ruth Page) 7. John Sawyer (Judith Copp--- who descends form the Copps who Cemetery is by "Old North Church) 8. Charles Sawyer ( Frances Green) 9. Charles Sawyer (Thelma Dove) and 10. Charles Sawyer and Noni----whom are old, but alive & kicking!!! If anyone is related to the "surlines", let me know. Still Digging, Noni Sawyer

    2. Noni, Glad to hear that you received good results from the DNA testing. Did your husband join the "Sawyer Surname Project" at Family Tree DNA ??? We don't have a Chuck or Charles as a member ?? I am the administrator for the project, if he did not join I wish that he would. Anyway thanks for the testimony on Rootsweb, we need all the exposure we can get. Sawyer Surname Project Administrator Robert Raymond Sawyer Houston, Texas

    1. "DNA"
    2. Hello all, I have not been active for some time on the Sawyer Rootsweb, but I have been active with the DNA research. ---- My husband, Chuck Sawyer had his DNA tested this year. His lineage goes back to 1642, William Sawyer of Newbury, Mass. ----- We went through " " FamilytreeDNA.com" and signed a waver to compare with all DNA's submitted The results were astounding. The highest markers in this line are "Irish", and he connected with four other names. ----- The most surprising thing to turn up (as I am the researcher in the family and was sure of all his lines) was that one of his Sawyers line in the U.S. married an American Indian-- or Indian enough to show up as a marker. You can contact Family Tree Dna by email, they mail out the kit and its two swabs, one in the morning and one at night--very easy. The cost is determined by the number of markers you choose--- I would recommend 25. Noni Sawyer, of the high desert of California

In the 1930 Census he is listed age 69, (b) abt 1861 at WI and living then in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota. Does any of this sound familiar? Please contact me should you see a commonality. There you will find listings for the county historical society site. The site lists books they have for sale. There is a book/booklet with some 300+ pages with a lot of genealogy/history/stories of Sawyer roots. It lists for $25 but in my opinion is loaded with info and well worth it!

Surnames: Sawyer, Winslow, Wakefield Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kRFBAIB/928.1002.1.1.2 Message Board Post: I've been poking around looking for information on your Clarissa and haven't come up with much. I suppose you know she was born 20 Sep 1800 in NY, died 19 Sep 1844 in DeWitt County, Illinois. She and Jeremiah were buried in the McCord Cemetery in DeWitt. One of their daughters was named Sylvia Lugenie. The name Sylvia (or some variant thereof) seems to be prevalent among the Jefferson County Sawyers. My husband's great-great-grandmother Almira Sawyer Westcott named a daughter "Augusta Sylvina." Another DeWitt County pioneer was one Orin Wakefield (1808-1885) son of Joseph Wakefield and Susan Sawyer. He was also born in Jefferson County, NY (Watertown). Perhaps his mother was an aunt to our Sawyer ancestors. At least they came to the same place. It appears there was a Thomas Sawyer who emigrated from England in 1639, first settling in Lancaster, Massachusetts -- a man from whom at least some of the Jefferson County Sawyers, including Susan Sawyer Wakefield, claimed descent. The more I dig the more confusing it becomes. Nancy
