    1. Y2K Setting Change
    2. sinca
    3. I've been informed that this is a setting change only and not indicative of a Y2K problem. Glad to know we can trust Microsoft after all. Sorry that I didn't check further before forwarding the info. Just thought my source knew more about technical things. I do, however, like seeing the four digits; perhaps others will as well. Jo

    3. This was sent to me by a Christian friend, and I thought I should pass it on for the reasons she mentions. Sure enough, when I checked, mine was not set correctly either - in spite of several Y2K download fixes from Microsoft! What's with these guys anyway? 1. Genealogy and the Net
    2. sinca
    3. Sally, I'm replying to the listserve because this is of general interest, I think. I'm definitely not discouraged about the Net; I'm now in touch with numerous Sawyer cousins in my line that I would not have known without SAWYER-L. It is finding persons doing Sawyer research in England that I haven't found much on yet (however, I've just begun this aspect of research and have a lot to learn, Net or otherwise). I gather you have gotten info from an Iowa Historical Society on the Web? I've done queries and receive list messages from several state and county Rootsweb sites, which I appreciate very much. My queries in these instances pertained to my Sawyer line in the state or county in question for the most part. I haven't done much on other gen. websites because I've found so much on Rootsweb and FTM sites and not much on others. The bulk of my research was done several years ago when computer info hadn't become so prevalent, and I am now looking to fill in gaps for the most part. Would also like to help my cousins, if possible, get our SC and NC lines across the water. Thanks very much for your response. Sincerely for Sawyer genealogy, Jo Sawyer

    1. Lookup in GRD if possible
    2. sinca
    3. Does anyone have a Genealogical Research Directory? If so, could you possibly do a lookup for me and see who is doing SAWYER research in England, particularly on the names James Henry or William Early. So far, I'm not finding much on this surname in English research on the Net. Thanks very much. Jo Sawyer

    3. Hi Jo! My line was spelled Sayers from about mid 1700s to after the Civil War. They eventually changed it permanently to Sawyers because of misprouncation. We have Early used once or twice as a first name ~ 1860s and John Henry in about 1830s. The furtherest back I can find is Andrew Sayers born about 1815 (maybe in NC or Va) who married nancy Puckett in Stokes Co, NC in 1836 and moved to Wythe Co, Va soon after. The oral history is that Andrew's possible grandfather Alexander Sayers moved his family from Wythe Co to Nc to keep them safe from the Indians. Alexander Sayers reportedly had a mill on the New River and later drowned in the New River trying to escape from Indians. I just don't have any verified information on Andrew's ancestors, or Nancy's either. I guess they could have come from anywhere. Early Sayers was Andrew's grandson. 1. "Earliest" William Early SAWYER - before 1700 - etc.
    2. sinca
    3. Noni, re your question about William of Newbury, he's not the one I'm looking for unless his middle name is Early. Have you seen my later clarification regarding my search? This may be a "long shot," but who knows what small bit of info may be a breakthrough in gen. research. Agreed? Jo Sawyer

Later moved to Wisconsin where he served in the State Legislature in the late 1850s, He died September 10, 1896 in Chicago. His wife was Angeline Harriet STOWE. 1. William Early or James Henry SAWYER before 1700
    2. sinca
    3. I need to clarify and add to my query about persons with these names. Since these two given names appear so many times in our SC Sawyer line, it may well be that early ancestors, perhaps in England, also had these names. I would be interested in corresponding with anyone with either of these names in their line before 1700. Thanks. Jo Sawyer

    1. Re: NC Sawyers
    2. Alice, Arcel and any others interested in Camden Co..NC Sawyers: My Charles Sawyer and Rebecca ?? Sawyer came to US before 1800 and settled in Camden Co.,NC. They are in 1800 census with 1 boy under nine, my Zadoc Sawyer (ggggrandfather) , one girl under 10, one 10-16. I believe this is Susannah who married Griffith Sanderlin of Camden Co. I know nothing of any other children, then or later. Charles and familly moved to Hancock Co by 1815 Zadoc married in 1819 in Jones Co., was in Baldwin from 1819-1828, in 1830 Henry Co., GA census, 1837 moved to Randolph Co., GA where he stayed. I have much on the wives and children of Zadoc(k) but little on Charles. Charles and Rebecca were never in Randolph, I believe they died around 1830. Since they were in Camden for such a short time, I am having a hard time connecting them to any other Sawyers in that area. If any one knows of a connection to these Sawyers or Sanderlins of Camden, please let me know. Teri Golden

    3. Dear Rob, My family spelled their name SAYERS in NC and VA. Later on, they were tired of it being mispronounced and changed it to SAWYERS in the late 1800s. 2. Guy Judkins
    3. I'm searching for the family which included Bailey Sawyer; he was in Surry Co. NC by 1812, where he married, but no other Sawyers around him. He moved to Lincoln Co. TN by 1820, then to Morgan Co. AL, and later to Tishomingo Co. MS by 1850 census where he is listed as being b. 1795 in VA and his wife, Sarah was b. NC. Has anyone heard of these folks?

    3. Shannon: The Etched in Stone cemetery book that you refer to is available at the Newburyport, MASS library in their genealogical research section. Phone: (508) 465-4428/4429 - or write: Newburyport Public Library, Newburyport, MA 01950. The Noreen Pramberg publication is also in that library in that section. Not sure if they "library-loan" - but worth a check to see. Good luck Winnie Sawyer Ahlquist
