I have found his birth certificate on the net: i.e., Thomas Vander Sawyer, born Oct.1882, Auburn (Logan County), Kentucky: Father was Henry Americus Sawyer; Mother was Martha Jane (Mattie) Sawyer. According to letter my father wrote to me in 1962, before his death at 86 yrs. old in 1968, the following are his paternal Sawyers: 1. Henry (great-grandfather of my father's) moved to Kentucky, had son, Tom Sawyer (grandfather of my father's); Tom had son, Henry Americus Sawyer (my father's father). Henry Sawyer #1 ran away with his two brothers from Scotland to escape conscription by the English Army. They all settled in Mass. Two of the brothers remained in Mass. My father told me that, in his travels, he met some of their descendants; one was in the Lumber business in Springfield, Mass. and "looked enough like me to be my twin brother" (like my father, that is). The 3rd brother moved to Virginia, etc. Does this ring a bell with any Sawyers out there? I can remember only one cousin (daughter of my father's sister) - a Joy Barrick. Would like to find out more about my family. Thanks in advance. Diane (nee Sawyer) ============================== Search more than 274 MILLION NAMES and find your ancestors at Ancestry.com! 3. Robb, John Sawyer, b30 Apr 1771 South Hampton NH m. 2 Nov 1797 Mercy Brown and his family are in the book we have recently been discussing SAWYER FAMILIES OF NEW ENGLAND, 1636-1900 by Eleanor Grace Sawyer. The only child whose line is continued on is a son, Josiah (1808-1880). He is descended from William Sawyer of Newbury. If anyone has Sawyer connections in New England this is the book to have. If you can not get hold of the book anywhere let me know and I might be able to copy some pages for you. Phyllis Phyllis S. Williams Mentor, OH and Punta Gorda, FL [email protected]

    3. I obtained my copy of this book from Mrs. Sawyer by writing to her at P.O. Box 440, Strafford, NH 03884. The cost is $45.00 which includes shipping and handling. The book is high quality, hardcover, about two inches thick and solid full of early New England genealogical references. I highly recommend it for those interested in Sawyers. Bob Anderson. 3. Dear Judy, There is a book SAWYER FAMILIES OF NEW ENGLAND, 1636-1900 by Eleanor Grace Sawyer. Your line is in this book. Sewell Brown Sawyer, b. 1817 in Milbridge, Maine is descended from James Sawyer of Gloucester, Mass. through his son Jacob who married Sarah Wallis 2 Feb 1716 and then moved to Cape Elizabeth, Maine along with a couple of his brothers. Most of the Sawyers in Maine are descended from them. I am also descended from Jacob. I have this book. If you can not get it at a library or somewhere else perhaps I could copy the pertinent pages for you and send them snail mail. There would be quite a few pages. Phyllis Phyllis S. 3. Hello, I am new to the SAWYER list and was hoping to find some help here. My grandmother was Eva Pearl Sawyer, born May 6, 1894, in La Grange, Maine. She married Joseph John Vachon, born in Middleton, New Hampshire. Her father was Horatio M. Sawyer, born in Milbridge, Maine and her mother was Dora (or Cora) B. Durgon/Durgin born in Medford, Maine. My 2nd great-grandparents were: Sewell B. Sawyer, born about 1819. Sewell married Martha Jane Stover. William Dungin and married Unknown Johnson. If you have any info on this SAWYER line, I would appreciate any help you are willing to give me. I have some info on SAWYERS that may be helpful to you, and I would love to share it. I don't know if these SAWYERS are related to Eva or not. Haven't made the connection. Thanks in advance, Judy Wells [email protected] ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. 2. It has come to my attention, rather rudely I might add, that this is a hoax. I am truely sorry for bothering, annoying, or worrying any of you with this. The following link was sent to me by the nicest person to respond to my email and I would like to forward it to you all so you can check for yourself in the future as I am NEVER going to send anyone a virus warning again. I have enough crap in my life without being spit upon by people that I, in my mind, am trying to help. <A HREF="http://www.av.ibm.com/BreakingNews/HypeAlert/">antivirus online: hype alerts!</A>

    3. As is true with so many of these supposed virus warnings - the California virus is a hoax. The primary nuisance it causes is its ability to get a lot of people jamming up the Internet by sending copies and everyone they know. Before perpetuating a virus hoax, we would all do better to first check it out at any of a number of Internet sites that watch for this stuff. Try looking at: http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/scares/california.html - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- Hoaxes & scares California/Wobbler virus hoax Name: California/Wobbler virus. Type: Hoax email virus. Danger: None. Description: This hoax email warns that if you receive an email with an attached file called "California", you should not open the file as it contains the "WOBBLER" virus. It claims that this virus deletes all the files on the hard disk, and that it can run from Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer, and can work on both PCs and Macintosh computers. The hoax attributes this information to a report from IBM. Whilst there is a joke program called WOBBLER (which makes the windows on your computer wobble), it is not a virus, and does not have the side-effects described in this message. It is a hoax. In common with many hoaxes, this one: falsely claims to describe an extremely dangerous virus falsely claims that the report was issued by a computer company asks you to forward it to all your friends As usual, you are urged not to pass on warnings of this sort, as the continued re-forwarding of chain letter hoaxes simply wastes email bandwidth. Also, you are urged not to run any program you receive via email, whether a warning exists about it or not. Programs received in this way should be treated as untrusted, and avoided. Important: It is impossible for a virus to exist in the normal text portion of an email. A virus could be carried within a file attached to an email, but this could only be spread by detaching the file and executing it or (if it contains macros) opening it with an application that could execute the viral macros.
