But the settlement of the estate the immigrant indicates that he was survived by two sons and a daughter - who are already accounted for. The evidence gathered by Plummer indicates some connection between Francis Plummer and Ruth Sawyer, but this connection was probably more distant than father and daughter:" This connection might be through Francis' DIL Mary Bitfield -- but what?

Hello fellow Willis Sawyer researchers!! I have recently come across some very interesting information on the children of Willis Sawyer. A lady, Geneva Aulds, in Union Parish LA who did heavy genealogical research during the 1950's, visited the granddaughter of Annis Sawyer Goyne Ward during that time. This lady had a Sawyer family Bible in her possession. I don't know if the Bible was Annis Sawyer's or if it could have possibly been her mother's Bible, I just know that Mrs. Auld recorded that it had a copyright date of 1830. Mrs. Aulds had a stroke several years ago and her daughter has been taking care of her and trying to sort through her genealogical research when she had the time. A couple of weekends ago, I visited Mrs. Aulds daughter to look at some of her information. Mrs. Aulds is a decendant of Willis Sawyer, through his son Samuel (my line also). This bible owned by the granddaughter of Annis Sawyer contained the following information. Sawyer, Mary, mother of John and Thomas died 15th July, 1803 John Sawyer born 26 May 1801 Thomas Sawyer born 2 July, 1803 Elizabeth Sawyer born 6 March 1810 Daniel Sawyer born 14, August 1812 Alley Sawyer born 27 February 1816 James Sawyer born 11 December 1818 Mary Jane Sawyer born 23 December 1821 Willis Sawyer born 2 August 1825 Annis Sawyer born 29 April 1828 died 6 April 1919 Samuel Sawyer born 24 January 1831 Susanna Sawyer born 5 September 1834 This bible record shows two more children than were mentioned in Willis' probate papers. I checked the 1810 and 1820 census in Marion County SC to see if Willis had a male child living with him who would fit in the right age group to be the John Sawyer. The census confirmed that he did have two sons in his household who would have been the right ages to have been John and Thomas Sawyer. Also, I have discovered that the Willis Sawyer who is shown on the 1850 Marion County SC census was the child of a John Sawyer. I am trying to find out if this John could be the son of our Willis that is mentioned in the Bible. Especially since he named his oldest son, Willis. I believe the Willis Sawyer the Bible shows being born in 1825, must have died as a child. I checked the 1830 census and there was not a male child in that age bracket living in Willis' household. Also, if you will look at the 7 year gap between the birth of Thomas Sawyer and Elizabeth Sawyer, it would appear that Willis was married a second time. Evidently, he was married to two Marys. Since we know that Mary McQueen was alive in 1817 when her father's will was probated, and the Bible didn't say anything different, I am assuming she was the mother of all of the other children. Willis must have married her sometime between the death of the first Mary in 1803 and the birth of Elizabeth in 1810. I am following up some leads with other Marion County, SC Sawyer researchers right now. I hope to have some more information shortly. I have tried to locate this Bible since finding out this information. The lady who owned the Bible died 11 years ago. Her family does not know what happened to the Bible after her death. I am really grateful to Mrs. Aulds for recording this valuable information and to her daughter for sharing it with me. Please feel free to contact me, if you have any questions regarding this information. Debbie Richard

The following is one example: Jesse Sawyer 1721 From: Ruth Stanton Gildart Lewis, San Diego CA. (Note:Ruth is a descendant of Jesse 1721 through Joel 1747, Blind John 1773, Abraham 1796, Charles 1825, and Henrietta 1856. For the information we have on the parentage of Jesse Sawyer (1721), we are very grateful to Dr. Richard G. Fowler who found the reference to Jesse in Jacob’s will of 1758 in which Jesse is named son and executor, and knowing by family tradition that our earliest then known Sawyer ancestor was a Jesse, corrected a long standing error which took our line to Jacob’s brother Edward. According to family records, he, Jesse, was born 10 Dec. 1721, and because of the will, we are sure that he was the son of Jacob and Martha (Loomer) Sawyer of Lyme, CT. And so he was born and grew up in Lyme and probably about 1742, he married Sarah Barden. Two correspondents have said that her last name was “Barden” and I am inclined to put some credence into this. The name “Sarah Barden” has come down to us connected with Jesse’s son, Joel. However, CT marriage records show that Joel married Abigal Barden. It is possible that descendants confused the two. This is only conjecture. Eight children were born to Jesse and Sarah in Lyme, the last being Huldah, born 22 Feb. 1759 “to Jesse and Sarah Sawyer.” ( Note. The number of children is in question, other sources indicate 5 males: Joel, Jesse Jr., John, Abel and Aaron plus Huldah fjt). Jesse enlisted to fight in the French and Indian War and in 1759 the troops mustered in at “the fort No. 4 on the Connecticut River.” While Jesse was away his father died in 1760. He was still gone in 1762, as he did not sign in that year the receipt in regard to his inheritance from his father as did his brothers and sisters. A Sarah Sawyer, who, I presume, was Jesse’s wife, did sign. Sometime after the war, land was opening up around Canaan, CT. Jesse decided to settle there. Abraham and Jacob Barden, of Middleborough, MA, also moved to northern CT. If Jacob’s wife’s maiden name really was “Barden,” Abraham and Jacob may have influenced Jesse in his decision to transfer his family to a faraway place. But of course, that is pure conjecture. There is a record that Jesse purchased land in Canaan in 1776, but he must have been living there long before that. Jesse died in Old Canaan, CT about 1795.
