    3. Debbie, I think this is YOUR--and MY--uncle (g g g uncle, at least in my case)--and an uncle to all the living descendants of Henry Sasser (except for Arthur's own descendants). Arthur, the son of Henry Sasser and Nanny his wife, was born in 1818, according to both the Henry Sasser Bible and "Sassers of Laurel County, Ky," and would have been 77 in 1895. Unless there is information showing that Arthur died before 1895, I would assume that this is he. At age 77, members the younger generations would have called him "uncle" regardless of whether they were kin to him. The date 1841 is particularly interesting. That was the year Arthur's first child was born and presumably only about a year or less after his marriage to Levina Weaver. It is natural that the seed potatoes would not have been presented to Arthur until the next potato-planting time (early spring), which indeed would have been in 1841. I am sure somebody knows the name of Levina Weaver's father--and thus of the person with whom the red potato originated. Also note that Arthur Sasser was the uncle of our great grandfather, Arthur Humfleet, and obviously the brother for whom Great Great Grandmother Piety Sasser Humfleet named her son (something that I had not thought about until fairly recently). Sorry to write so many memos not containing new information. But one usually can learn more by analyzing old information than by collecting new facts. I hope I am not dwelling too much on trivia. Glenn . [From your message:] I hope this is someone's Great-uncle Arthur!! Debbie M ============================================ Reprinted with permission of the Laurel Co. Historical Soc. ============================================ November 6, 1895 ... Uncle Arthur Sasser presented us yesterday with an old fashioned long red Irish potato and a very fine one too, the seed of which he said his father in law presented him with in 1841, which he planted in that year and ever year since. ... ***************************************** Glenn E.
