Since Arthur Humfleet was a grandson of Henry Sasser and Nanny his wife, this might be of interest to somebody in the Sasser group as well. ------- Forwarded Message Follows ------- From: Self <SCIFAC/PSPERRG> To: HUMFLEET-L@rootsweb.com Subject: name in a famous book Date: Sat, 26 Sep 1998 18:09:18 -0500 To the Humfleet group, Almost exactly forty years ago in the Union College Library in Barbourville, KY I was reading John C. Campbell, The Southern Highlander and His Homeland (New York: Russell Sage Foundation, 1921)--a rather famous book that helped to create a particular image of the Appalachian people--when I was overcome with excitement suddenly to find the name of my great grandfather, Arthur Humfllet (although misspelled) on p. 353. The reference contained nothing really significant about him, but at that time I--an eighteen-year-old college student--could hardly contain my desire to show somebody what I had found. The reference is in APPENDIX C BOONE'S TRAIL ".... "Kentucky boasts fourteen tablets [marking Daniel Boone's trail]: "... "5. Near Tuttle, on the Knox and Laurel County line, on the farm of Arthur Hunfleet." I know this may not be of great importance, but I thought some of his other descendants might find it a bit interesting. Glenn ***************************************** Glenn E.
