Dixie, In a discussion with me last month, one of my father's brothers, Gibb Perry, corrected one piece of information that my father had given me. He said (and my father seemed willing to concede the point) that Cora "Cory" Perry Sasser--second wife of Wallace Sasser--was a daughter of William R. Perry and Susan "Sukey" Tuttle Perry. My great grandfather, Tom Perry, was a brother of William R. Perry, while his wife (my great grandmother) was a sister of Susan Tuttle Perry ("Aunt Sukey"). Thus instead of being my grandfather, Alex Perry's, aunt (as I had thought), Cory Sasser was his double first cousin. I hope I have this straightened out now. The William R. Perry I am referring to is the one buried at Mt. Olivet (b. March 24, 1854, d. Mar. 15, 1929). I suspect that his father, Ranse Perry (my great great grandfather), is buried next to him, for I now am pretty sure that my grandfather once told me (about forty years ago) that he is buried at Mt. Olivet. I would tend to think that this is the same William R. Perry you have in your database. Do you have the date of death for Rhoda Sasser? Could she have been his first wife? According to the tombstone at Mt. Olivet, Susan Tuttle Perry (b. Aug. 1, 1852, d. Dec. 14, 1933) outlived her husband. I am still not quite sure how Nancy Jane Perry was connected to the other Perrys. My uncle might know. Also, I have a living great aunt that I should ask about this. The "Doc" Gilbert I referred to was Solomon "Doc" "Sol Doc" Gilbert, son of Wallace Gilbert (b. 1802)--and a "country doctor." Perhaps I should explain that the side of my family that I know least about is the Perrys. Ranse Perry (I have recently found out that his name was Ransil), according to tradition, came from Tennessee, where he had supposedly been a captain in the Confederate Army. I have recently learned that he was from Hancock County, TN. After coming to Knox County, KY, he apparently lived on Sled Road Branch (at the mouth of which Wallace Sasser's farm was located), just across the hill from the Jesse Sasser place on Blackwater and probably very close to the Adin Sasser place. All these Perry-Sasser connections notwithstanding, my Sasser lines are on my mother's side. Both my maternal grandfather, Claiborn "Clabe" Taylor, and my maternal grandmother, Sarah Elizabeth Humfleet Taylor, were great grandchildren of Henry Sasser and Nanny his wife. That is why I say that although I do not have the name, I am a "double Sasser." The two lines are as follows: Glenn E. Perry (me) Mazie Pearl "Pearl" Taylor Perry (my mother) Claiborn "Clabe" Taylor (my grandfather) Susan Sasser Taylor (my great grandmother) Jesse Sasser (my great great grandfather) Henry Sasser and Nanny his wife (my great great great grandparents) Glenn E. Perry (me) Mazie Pearl "Pearl" Taylor Perry (my mother) Sarah Elizabeth Humfleet Taylor (my grandmother--the one I got all my information from when I was about fifteen years old) Arthur Humfleet (my great grandfather) Piety Sasser Humfleet (my great great grandmother) Henry Sasser and Nanny his wife (my double great great great grandparents) I am sending a copy of this to the whole list in order to correct the information on Cora Perry Sasser--and also in the hope that others will post their lines. Now I am trying to piece together some information. You wrote the following: E-mail Dated April 6, 1998 >From Glenn E. Perry E-mail address: psperrg@scifac.indstate.edu Don, My father has told me that Cora Perry Sasser (whom he called "Aunt Cory" was a sister of his grandfather, Tom Perry. William R Perry ("Uncle Bill")--the one buried at Mt. Olivet--was their brot Another sister of these Perrys that many of our ancestors were connected to--if only because she was the midwife who seems to have delivered about half of the babies along the Knox/Laurel county lin Glenn Would you be kind enough to get me connected to the Sasser's? In my huge database I have a William R. Perry m. Rhoda Sasser and a Nancy Jane Perry m. James Buchanan Sasser. How do these tie into the Perry's in your message? Also, I do not have any information on you or your line. Would you be willing to supply me with this information? Thanks, Dixie dixie@locktrack.com ***************************************** Glenn E.
