According to the 1890 Special Census, several veterans of the 7th KY or their widows were living in Clay County at that time, including T. T. Garrard, who was recorded as being a Brigadier General. The transcribed copy that I have contains additional information taken from the Adjutant General's Report on Kentucky; e.g., enlistment & discharge dates for most of the men. Altogether, 300 veterans of the Civil War or their widows lived in Clay County in 1890. Of that number, 13 had served in the CSA, and roughly 33 had served in units from other states. The rest were from KY Infantry units 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 14, 23, 24, 26, 47, 49. Also KY Cavalry units 11, 14, 39, and the 88th KY Batt. The 1890 Special Census was taken from the pension roles. In some cases the name of the soldier was known, but his regiment was not. There were 37 such cases in Clay County. I will try to give the whole census in the next few days, and will list these veterans along with the rest. For now, I will list the veterans of the 7th by company. Unless otherwise designated, they held the rank of Private. I have transcribed the name as it was written, and some of them are misspelled. If I know the correct spelling, I have put it in parentheses by the name. I have also designated when it was a widow and not the veteran who was listed in the census. Anyone wanting to inquire further about a name is welcome to contact me.
