Kentucky. Married to Lawrence Lay, Aug. 10, 1901 in Bruno, Ark. The Lays moved to Okla. about 1907 where Mars. Lay taught school and Mr. Lay preached among the Indians and new settlers over the southern part of the state- They moved to Edmond about 1907 where they bought a home at 301 E. Campbell. They both attended college here in Edmond. Mrs. Lay united with the Baptist church in Bruno when very young and was a very faithful christian until death Wed. June 8, 1955 at the age of 78 yrs. and 18 days. Aunt Lissa was loved by all who knew her. always going out of her way to make others happy. Even during her long illness when she was in bed most of the time. She did tatting, crochet and other fancy work and gave to her relatives and friends. (There is a beautiful example of her tatting of a cross in this bible) Letter from Rita (Sasser) Samocki who was researching the Sasser Genealogy. (handwritten to Linna Sasser Smith) Dear Mrs. Smith, I am trying to compile a history of the Sasser family - especially all decendents of Henry Sasser who came to KY from N.C. in 1824. All of the Okla. Sasser information I obtained from Sharon O'Donell, also all Sasser names in your phonebook. I know it is asking a great deal but would you please look over the chart I am sending and please fill in any information you may be able to supply. I am very interested in the dates when the Sassers came to Oklahoma, the death date of Catherine Wyrick, where Henry died and where he is buried, as well as where hes children were married. I have been working on this for two years and enjoy it so much. I have found the Sassers in N.C. as early as 1737 - there was a Wm. Saucer in Norfolk Co. VA in 1643 but I can't seem to get past the 1737, perhaps more searching will turn something up. My sister and I have been to KY and N.C. searching the court records but it will take a great deal more time than we had. I hope I'll be able to visit N.C. again. I wrote Mrs. Gertrude Crab and (your sister) Mrs. Jewell Martin but nether answered. Perhaps you could call and talk to thes people and get their information for our family line - I would be more than willing to pay for the toll calls. I suppose most people don't really understand when they receive a letter asking who their grandfather was. I'll close for now hoping I hear from you soon, and thank you so very much. Sincerely, Rita (Sasser)Samocki 8311 Lake Shore Dr. Gary, Indiana 46403 (Sorry the post date did not copy, but I think it was sent in the 60's, I had to leave the contents of bible in place. There was not a copy of the chart.) Children of Thomas A. Sasser and Lela Sasser (McCarty). (This hand written note was also inserted.
