    1. General T. S. Garrard
    2. The following biographical sketch of General Theophilus S. Garrard has been exerpted from "Union Regiments of Kentucky," which was compiled in 1895. "GEN. THEOPHILUS S. GARRARD was born near Manchester, KY, June 7, 1812. He was a member of the Lower House of the Kentucky Legislature in 1843-4; served through the Mexican War as a captain in the 16th US Infantry; went to California, on the discovery of gold in 1849, by the overland route; remained in the mines 15 months, and then returned, by way of Panama, to Kentucky. He was elected to the state Senate in 1857, resigned to become a candidate for Congress and elected a state Senator again in 1861. At Camp Dick Robinson, in the fall of that year, he was appointed a colonel of the 3rd KY, US Volunteer Infantry, promoted to brigadier-general November 29, 1862; served with great credit until he was mustered out on April 4, 1864, on account of a serious affliction of the eyes. He has since resided in Clay County, KY."
