    3. Don, I don't know the answer to Shelby Bottorff's question, and I don't know much about the Glasses. I may be repeating what everybody else already knows. But Rhoda Glass (known to us as the longtime keeper of the Henry Sasser Bible) told me in 1959 that the Glasses who married Sassers in Laurel County were a branch of the famous Glass family in Virginia--which included the famous Senator Carter Glass, known, among other things, as the framer of the Federal Reserve Act in 1913. Rhoda said that her branch of the Glass family left Virginia during the Civil War because of their Unionist sympathies. Another observation: the given name "Clayborn" that is mentioned makes one think there must be a Taylor connection, as that name has recurred in the Taylor family at least since 1823.
