    1. Lineage from Barton Sasser
    2. Earl, According to my data, Barton & Pherby Sasser's daughter Elizabeth married Thomas Smith in Laurel County on January 23, 1866. I know that Barton & Phery's granddaughter Susan D. Smith b. 4-23-1874 married my great uncle Claborn Taylor Jones (s/o Thomas Jefferson Jones) at the home of her parents on January 8, 1892. They had 6 children (Celia, Mary, Foster, Thomas, Odie, & Dora) before she died on October 22, 1901. She probably died from childbed fever or consumption, 2 common killers of women who had recently born children. Her youngest child was only 10 weeks old when she died. She is buried in the Beech Creek cemetery in Clay County about 3 1/2 miles from Manchester. Uncle Clabe's daughter Martha from his 2nd marriage has always confirmed that Susan was "Uncle Bart & Aunt Pherby's grandchild." She also told me the circumstances of their marriage. It seems that Jeff's 4th wife Virginia (my gr grandmother) died & left several small children who lived for a while with their mother's sister & then came back home. There was no woman living in the house...only Uncle Clabe & Grandpappy. When Clabe was 19, Jeff told him that he needed to find a wife who could help take care of the children, & he said that he would go to Laurel County and see if Susan would marry him and she did. She ran the house until Jeff married (#5 wife) in 1894. By that time she & Clabe had 2 children of their own.
