I do not know the specific reason the group from Wayne Co. NC moved with (soon to be CSA Gen) Whitfield, to South Alabama, but about that time, there was another exodus from that area into Hardeman Co. TN. After the 1800 census, a large group from Old Dobbs Co. NC (Johnston specifically) moved from that area to Davidson/Rutherford Co. TN. The explaination I believe for all these moves is new land was opening up and the old land was wearing out. This area of NC had been populated since the mid 1700s, so it was time to move on.
