To all cousins: I just returned from the SASSER reunion held at Clemmons State Forest near Clayton, NC, in Johnston County ... county of origin for many Sasser lines! (See plans for next year at bottom of text.) There were about 20 people there including three of us SASSER-L subscribers: Phil Sasser <PSASSER105@aol.com> of Cary, NC, and Doug Sherman <Dougsherma@aol.com> of Durham, NC; both of the Laurel County, KY, line; and myself from the Cullen Joseph Sasser line that relocated from Wayne County to Stanly County, NC, in the mid 1850s. We enjoyed fellowship, traded stories, shared family histories, looked at photos of our ancestors, and made new friends. We continue to work to find that these new friends are indeed related to all of us! This reunion turns out to be a local line eminating from Jasper SASSER of Johnston County, NC, as follows: 1 Jasper Sasser 2 Elijah Thomas Sasser b: 1851 d: 1896 + Evaline P. Aycock b: 1851 d: 1935 3 Millard Ihrie Sasser b: (?) d: 1951 + Pearcy Vell Herring b: (?) d: 1951 4 James Thomas Sasser b: 1902 4 Robert Hayes Sasser 4 Ruby Sasser 4 Luby Sasser *2nd Wife of Millard Ihrie Sasser + Sarah Herring (sister of Pearcy Vell Herring) 4 William Elbert Sasser b: 1928 3 Walter Sasser b: 1878 d: 1952 + Lillie Worley 4 Emmett Sasser 4 Thelma Sasser 4 Brantley Sasser b: Abt. 1906 3 Jasper Vester Sasser b: 1886 + Maggie Phillips 4 Garland Gladston Sasser 4 Arnold Sasser 4 Evelyn Mary Sasser 4 Thomas Dallas Sasser 4 Herbert Norwood Sasser 4 Glether Vester Sasser 4 Ethel Rether Sasser 4 Leon Huntley Sasser 4 Charles Aycock Sasser 3 Leslie Franklin Sasser b: 1890 d: 1946 + Ora Augusta Castleberry b: 1886 d: 1960 4 Kate Evelyn Sasser b: 1916 4 Fay Aycock Sasser b: 1918 4 Emma Merle Sasser b: Abt. 1920 4 Que Franklin Sasser b: Abt. 1922 4 Zell Castleberry Sasser b: 1924 4 Travis Brinson Sasser b: 1926 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------- A decision was made to make this reunion an annual affair to be held on the 2nd Saturday in September beginning in 1998. The plan is to have it at the same place: Clemmons State Educational Forest, 12 miles southeast of Raleigh on US-70. The site is just northwest of Clayton, NC, in the edge of Johnston County. It is hoped that larger numbers will come with better promotion and that an ever-increasing number of lines will be included. We hope to outgrow the facility. Watch for periodic information on the list. Regards, Carroll R. Carroll Sasser 321 Meredith Street Raleigh, NC 27606-1224 (919) 851-3798
