    1. Documentation!!
    2. Debbie Mauelshagen
    3. I have some questions for "ya'll"... I do not use WFT so I need to know how well it is documented. I have looked at several different ged's from different people on the Sasser List and found various codes in the "note" field but no sources such as: 1820 Laurel Ky Census or XXX Co Marriage bonds, etc.. With out the proper documentation it is no more than a tool. The ged's that I rec'd don't even have my parents and immediate family's data correct. I am afraid that the information on WFT is being considered to be more than it really was intended. It is a tool and should not take the place of having the actual documentation research. I have no problem using someone else's research if they also can produce physical documents or copies of documents to back their claims. Now having said that and hopefully not offended anyone. Does any one out there have any physical documentation on the ancesters of Henry/Heinrich/John Henry (every one has slightly different names for him) Sasser. He is the one was married to Nancy Kirby. Some of their children were Keziah, Adin, Piety, Dixon, Malindy etc. I have Henry and Nancy documented but I have nothing before him. Even if you just know what Census and where then I can do some of the checking myself. I have seen that Henry's father was William who was married to Martha Bishop but I need the documentation for them and those further back as well. I would like to expand my web page to include the rest of the Sasser lines but I need the documentation. To many mistakes can be made I don't mind a little speculation but it needs to be identified as such. I want to change what I have from my ancestors to the oldest documented Sasser and his descendants which would include most of you. I am going to make a seperate page for the Sassers and tie in text of stories and information that has been and is being provided via the Sasser List. I intend to document as much as I can so as I go through my old email I may be in touch with some of you for sources, page #'s etc. If you are interested in helping me please let me know what you have or where I need to look for what I need. Thanks Debbie Mauelshagen

I am gathering documentation for an application, and would appreciate any help I can get in connecting my gggg grfather William Jones to Vinson who was his father. According to information from the DAR office in DC, several people are members through Vinson's son Isaac. I am hopeful that at least one of them is a subscriber to this list. Help! 3. Could anyone tell me about the Sassers dating back to 1780-1822 from Guilford County, NC? I have found all the surnames (Sasser, Dison, Patterson, Allen) I have been looking for in this area. The census is very hard to read in many ways. I am mainly looking for the parents of William Pinkney Sasser b.1822 who married Susannah Roberson Dison b. 1822. I have also found alot of Sassers in Johnston County. Oddly enough, there is a town called Pinkney in a neighboring county called Wayne. I am also curious about where the Sassers all originated from. My Aunt seems to think the Sassers in our family came from England. They had a flat bottomed boat they traveled in along waterways. I have been searching only the counties that have rivers. This has helped me quite a bit. Also, I seem to think all the families traveled together. I have more info if anyone would like to know. If anyone even has some info that might help my detective work I would be grateful! Maureen Morales

    3. Need some help with the sasser families who migrated from nc to burke county, g a, in the 1790s's. Apparently the had given names that should tie them to a particular area or family in nc. It appears from the early burke and screven county land grants that there were the following sassers who receive land at about the same time; first, in burke, later in screven. What happened to them? What families are they allied with in NC? They are: britain/Britton Sasser, thomas sasser, william sasser, and, perhaps a stephen sasser. Thomas and britton sasser had houses enumerated together in the federal direct tax of 1798. land grants in nc indicate that some of the sassers lived in the midst of howel ls in 18th century johnston co., nc. Who are these howells? does anyone know of a connection? Where can I find info in nc that will link thomas sasser of georgia to his supposed father, william, and william to his supposed father, john? I keep asking similar questions. Several of thomas sasser's descendants e-mail me with queries. I don't seem to receive many answers, or is it unfashionable to be related to a bunch of "ga crackers"? Hah!

    3. Dear Cousins, I am working on a web page for our Sasser family. This will be the official page of the Sasser Family National Association. It will include family history as well as an online edition of our family newsletter, the SASSER FAMILY NEWS. The newsletter will have current news about the family; obituaries; weddings and engagements; births; and feature articles about kinfolks. I will need your help on the webpage: PLEASE send me info on such items as: ALL deaths of Sasser relatives that you hear about, with as much info as you can learn (full names, when and where born and died; name of spouse, when married (if you know this); names of children and what cities they live in and names of grandchildren). Marriages: full names, dates of birth; names of parents; when and where married. Background on couple such as where they went to school and what kind work they do. Location of the marriage (name and town of church, etc.) Where the couple lives after their marriage. Other details such as bridesmaids and Best Man. If they took a honeymoon, where did they go. Births: full name, date and place of birth (including the name of the hospital); weight; full name of parents and both sets of grandparents. Residences of parents and grandparents; names of the baby's brothers and sisters. If you see a news article about a Sasser relative in your local newspaper, please clip this out, along with the name and date of the paper from the top of the page, and send to me and we will add this to the newsletter. Please send printed articles to me at: Robert Earl Woodham 1130 Celia Drive Columbus, Georgia 31907 Thanks for the help. Hope to be online soon with the family page. Your cuz, Robert Earl

    3. I know about the Sabra you mention, but that is not the Sabra I am seeking. The Sabra Sasser I am looking for was born in Dobbs Co., NC. I think the Sabra you mention was a niece or grand-niece of my Sabra Sasser. Individual Summary - 24 Jan 1997 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- Name: Sabra SASSER Sex: Female Individual Facts Birth 1750 in Dobbs Co., NC Death aft 1833 in Screven Co., GA Marriages/Children 1. James BOYETT Sr. Marriage 1768 in Dobbs Co., NC Children Phillip BOYETT Abigail BOYETT Allen BOYETT Irvin BOYETT Elizabeth BOYETT Ann BOYETT Stephen BOYETT (born 1770) James BOYETT Jr. (born 1772) Edward BOYETT (born 1774) Seth BOYETT (born 1794) 2. Joseph BECKTON Marriage 12 May 1833 in Screven Co, GA ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The Sassers and Boyt/Boyet/Boyett/Boyette families were living in close proximity to each other in NC in Dobbs and as you show, Johnston counties. There is about 50 years difference in the time frames of the two Sabra's, enough for at least two generations, that is why I believe your Sabra is a grand-niece of my Sabra. My Sabra died sometime after 1833 in Screven Co., GA. I would be interested in seeing more on this line of Sassers: William Serseys Abel Sassers. Someone posted information on Dobbs Co., NC with another Boyett listed, I thought I saved it, but guess not. Anyone that has anything with the Sassers and Boyetts mentioned, I would love to have it. Most of the information on this list is well after the 1800 time frame. I guess most of the information before that time was lost. I have saved your mail.-Bill William L. 1. Sasser name
    2. Robert Earl Woodham
    3. There has been some talk lately about whether we are related to folks with a spelling different that the modern spelling of SASSER. Some of you have written in and pointed out, for instance, that the 1790 US Census had only one (?) with this spelling while the rest had other spellings. You will find a WIDE variety of spellings of our family name in public records over the last 200 years in America. DON'T ignore these different spellings. Here are some I have found: SASCER, SASER, SASCIER, SASSIER, SARCER, SARCIER, SASHER, SATCHER, SAUCER, SAUSER, SAWSER, SAWCER and a lot more. The US Census Bureau recognized this problem of varied spelling of a single family name and created the "Soundex" system when they indexed the 1880 census. All names that sound similar are indexed together. When you deal with printed indexes, you can find an even greater corruption of the name because most of these folks aren't familiar with certain names--especially of small families or rare names such as our's. You will find the double S written up until the 1900's in a form that many people are not familiar with and it can look like an F or sometimes as a P or T. As a result, I have found SASSER indexed incorrectly as "SAPER" or even as "SATTER". More on this later... Robert Earl Woodham
