Sorry to bother the whole group with a general message, but I have misplaced the name & address of the person to whom I sent the picture of Barton & Phoebe/Pherbe Sasser. Dear Cousins, Can anyone help with the names of the parents and grandparents of MONROE SASSER. His mother is CAROLYN who lives in Ocoee, Fla. MONROE died this week in the suburbs of Memphis, Tenn. His obit is in our family newsletter at: http://www.SwiftSite.com/SouthernFamilyHistory/sasser.htm Robert Earl Woodham
One question, do you have any reliable evidence (or just an educated guess) concerning the nationality of the Sasser family? Adrianne

Dear Don & Dear Charles The Olin that Charles is looking for is OLIN CRAWFORD SASSER, born in 1805 in Wayne County, NC. I still have no idea who his parents were but he was NOT the son of JOHN WILLIAM. The only John William for that period was born in 1803--the same generation as Olin. All I know for sure about his parents is that his mother was CRAWFORD (no first name known). This comes from the will of LAZARUS CRAWFORD, 1818 in Wayne County. The marriage record Charles has for Olin and NANCY SCOTT is correct. Although they married in Johnston County, they lived in adjoining Wayne County and all their four known children were born in Wayne. Forget the bit about the Bahamas as well as France. Besides, the British would not have welcomed French settlers in the Bahamas anyway. And why leave a beautiful tropical island for the cold winters of Maryland? No way! More later... Your cuz, Robert Earl Woodham
According to my family records, when the estate of Milton B. Jones, the father of Pherbe Jones Sasser (b. 1830) (who married Bardin Sasser), died, he had a granddaughter named Pherbe Humfleet who was one of the heirs. I believe she was the daughter of his daughter Nancy. Can anyone tell me about this family? Who did Nancy marry? Was Pherbe Humfleet married in 1880? If so, to whom? I will appreciate any help. LAUREL EDUCATOR TAKEN IN DEATH Laurel County has lost one of its greatest educators. Mr. Lynn Nantz Sasser of Route 4, London, Kentucky, died Thursday, March 1, at his home. He was fifty-nine years old. Mr. Sasser leaves his wife, Mrs. Katherine Williams Sasser, sons: Lynn Dell Sasser of Lexington, KY, presently studying toward a Ph.D. degree at the University of Kentucky; Rick Sasser, of London who attended Sue Bennett College and is now associated with Mutual of New York Insurance; and daughter Mrs. Sharon S. McNeeley of Lafollette, TN, a teacher at LaFollette High School and graduate student at the University of Tennessee. He also leaves his mother, Mrs. Ethel N. Sasser; a brother, Mr. John G. Sasser: and a granddaughter, Leslie Lynn Sasser. Mr. Sasser was the Adult Sunday School teacher at Slate Hill Baptist Church where he had been a member for 40 years. For the last five years he had served as treasurer for the church. Mr. Sasser, a native of Laurel Co., where he was born in 1914, had spent his entire life in Kentucky He descended from a family of educators. His father, the late J. I. Sasser, had a teaching career in Georgia before he returned to Laurel County to teach at Sasser Elementary, a school made possible by a land donation from Mr. Sasser's grandfather, the late Mr. John P. Sasser I received this from Shirley Martin. Shirley is a descendent of Barbara Jane Sasser b. May 16, 1858 Mr. Sasser was her science / biology teacher.....
We have a new member to our list.... can anyone help him ??? Don Sasser ---------- From: Mike Sasser Sent: Thursday, August 14, 1997 8:27 PM To: Don Sasser Subject: Sasser Genealogical Assistance Mr. Sasser: I was wondering if you could advise me on how to go about tracing the ancestry of my great-grandfather, John Dallas Sasser, born in the 1850s, possibly in Geneva County, Alabama. His wife was Sarah Eliza Hall-Sasser, and their offspring included John Marion Sasser (my grandfather), born April 1883/died 1956, both in Geneva County, Alabama. Relying solely on the remembrance of my father and mother, I have been able to trace my ancestry back to my great-grandfather but no further. I note the Sasser's can be traced to the 1600s in Maryland, do you have any information as to their country of origin? It is interesting that you live in Columbus, Georgia. In the early 40s my father left Geneva County, Alabama and relocated to Columbus to find employment in the textile mills. He lived their until WWII, and after the war returned to the area to live through the early 50s. Eventually they settled in North Florida, where I live today. Our e-mail address is msasser@panama.gulf.net, and we look forward to hearing from you soon. Regards, Michael G. Sasser Panama City, Florida
Dear Earl, I'm sending this to the whole list because I can't find your personal e-mail address in my files. Thanks a lot for the picture of Barton/Bardin & Phoebe/Pherby Sasser. As luck would have it, I have a copy of that very picture in a wonderful book of photographs called "Pioneers of Beech Creek" published a couple of years ago by a distant cousin named Harold Goins. I don't know where he got it, but it was in the book because Pherbe was Milton Jones' daughter by his first wife, & she and Barton lived on Beech Creek for several years before they moved to Laurel County. It's such a great picture. It looks like Grant Woods' "American Gothic." Anyway, I appreciate your sending it. Best, Vietta
