It is nice to have this sort of thing in the archives. This will allow someone to search by name. There has been many a time that I have used a search and found lost kin. I personally don't need these because my Sasser tie is prior to the Civil War. I don't mind glancing at them for my other KY lines and then use the delete key. It takes 3 years to get a stamp issued so we need to get busy and call the 1-800-stamp24 or write to the address below. Genealogy meets all the criteria for a stamp. I believe we just need enough pressure to make it happen, so pass it along and let us generate a landslide of pressure to get one of our passions recognized. EMail to US Postal Service: customer@email.usps.gov From the US Postal Service Pages: http://www.usps.gov/ Ideas for stamps subjects that meet the criteria may be addressed to the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee, c/o Stamp Management, U.S. Postal Service, 475 L'Enfant Plaza, SW, Room 4474EB, Washington, DC 20260-6756. Subjects suggestions should be submitted at least three years in advance of the proposed date of issue to allow sufficient time for consideration and for design and production if the subject is approved. The selection of subjects for U.S. postage stamps and stationery is a difficult task, since only a limited number of new commemorative items can be issued annually. To help in the selection process, the Postmaster General established the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee (CSAC) over 30 years ago to recommend subjects and designs. Members are appointed to the Committee by the Postmaster General. They reflect a wide range of educational, artistic, historical and professional expertise. Once a subject is approved, the Postal Service relies, to a great extent, on the design coordinators for the Advisory Committee in selecting artists to execute the designs. Stamp designing is an unusual art form requiring exacting skill in portraying a subject within very small dimensions. Due to the demands of stamp design and reproduction requirements, it is our policy not to review nor accept unsolicited artwork. -----Original Message----- From: theresa Carhart <theresac@gte.net> To: CIVIL-WAR@rootsweb.com <CIVIL-WAR@rootsweb.com> Date: Friday, December 05, 1997 11:25 PM Subject: Genealogy stamp >Hi rooters, > > I found out today that the U.S. post office has no genealogy stamp, >so I ask how we(Genealogist) could request one be designed and they told me >to call this number, I feel, they have stamps on everything and everyone, >but genealogy. She had > said that she was going to send me what she has on her Ledingtons but I have > not received anything from her as of yet. > > Sherry > Sherry, Yes, I met Lisle Hale and her sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Hawk Hale. I have much to report later, especially on our visit to the Sasser-Glass Cemetery on Blackwater. As I understand from what Lisle told me, Claudia Ledington Sanders (wife of Colonel Harland Sanders, the symbol of KFC) was a daughter of Nancy Elizabeth Glass, who married Jeremiah Moses Ledington, Jr. Nancy Elizabeth Glass was a daughter of Rhoda Elizabeth Sasser and Hiram Glass. Rhoda Elizabeth Sasser was a daughter of Jesse Sasser (one of Henry and Nancy's fourteen). If there is any inaccuracy in what I am stating, I take responsibility, for Lisle and Fay are Claudia's first cousins and thus know the facts very well. Their mother was Allie Glass (inaccurately called Aline, I am told, in the book about Claudia), sister of Nancy Elizabeth. A photo of the Colonel is located among the other pictures of Lisle's close relatives. My reference to him as "famous" evoked amusement and protests from her. I am sending my reply to the whole Sasser group because this might be of general interest (and because I reported several months ago that I had heard of Claudia's being a descendant of Henry Sasser). In fact, Claudia was Henry Sasser's great great granddaughter. Glenn ***************************************** Glenn E. Hello, I am new to the list. I am looking for anyone who knows about the following Sassers. My Greatgrandfather was William (Billy) Sasser, he married a Jones. His children were Nannie, Lucy, Henry, Joe and John. They were born in the Cane Creek area of Laurel County, Kentucky. Nannie Sasser was my paternal Grandmother. She was born in 1883 and died in 1951. She married George Stewart. Any info would be appreciated.
