Aden Sasser b. June 03, 1816>Henry A Sasser b. August 22, 1839> Thomas Adin Sasser b. February 22, 1869 d. October 22, 1943. Feb 6, 1998 Dear Sasser Descendants. It's hard to believe its 1998 and that time has rolled around again. Time for the 25th TOM & LELA SASSER FAMILY REUNION! I heard some of you did not receive the postcard I sent out in the fall. I'm truly sorry for that, some were returned (you moved and didn't tell me) and had been smudged so they might have gotten wet. Any way, here is all the scoop and then some you may have missed. We are trying for a central Texas location this year. The reunion will be held on June 12, 13, and 14 at Hidden Cove Park; The Colony, Texas. You'll find an enclosed brochure highlighting this park. We have reserved the group dining hall for Saturday and Sunday. If you want to go ahead and make reservations you will need to pay for full rate one day. If you have a Corp. of Engineers Golden Age Pass you will get your half price discount back when you check in. Also, if you reserve a shelter anyone in the group using the dining hall will get first choice of the shelters in that area on arrival. You can't plug in R.V.s of any kind at the shelters, but they have great sites with hook up near by. All sites are on first come first served basis, even with a reservation, but you will get one. I hope this makes sense. Has everyone been working on or, at least, thinking about bringing their auction items? Last reunion's auction was a big success. The personally made items were the favorites, painted T-shirts and vests, wind chimes, wooden vases, crocheted Items, needle point items, and paintings. There were other "white elephant" items that turned into sought after treasures , a tractor seat, jewelry boxes, old movies on video, and an O.U. cup. There were photo copies of some old family photos that really brought in the bids. Everyone had a great time, it was more fun, and more profitable than passing a hat. So, dust off those "special" items or get busy on those crafts and bring your auction items. Don't forget the kids, they enjoy bidding also. We are doing our best to get this all pulled together. If you have any questions please call one of us or my dad Tom Swails, the former president, and now reconnaissance agent. also, please send all address changes of your family members. Dear Tommy, Glad to hear from some more kinfolks from "down home". If you will send me some more info on who your parents and Sasser grandparents were (with some birthdates also), I might be able to help you. The problem is that the Dothan (Wiregrass area) area has attracted descendants of SEVERL different branches of our family. Some Sasser kinfolks settled in Barbour and Henry Counties (just north of Dothan) back in the 1820's and 1830's. Another branch, descended from HOWELL, settled in Covington County over 50 miles west of Dothan, back in the 1820's. His descendants have spread back east into Geneva, Dale and Houston (Dothan) Counties. Another branch settled in Geneva County also, coming directly from Georgia. Another branch settled in Pike County, north of Dothan and their descendants have moved south into Dothan also. AND some kinfolks from southwest Georgia have also settled in Dothan in recent years. So...if you can tell me who your granddaddy Sasser was and perhaps who his brothers and sisters and if you know, your great grandparents, then I hope I can help. Your cuz, Robert Earl Woodham (formerly of Dothan) now of Columbus, Georgia
Dear Adrian & all, It wasn't just to go through the Cherokee Nation. The main territory that all settlers moving westward from the Carolinas and Georgia, was through the Creek Indian Nation, which covered a much larger area. These passports were issued by the Governor's office of Georgia, for those citizens passing through Georgia and going westward to Mississippi through the Creek Indian Nation. Most of the territory of what is now Alabama and Mississippi (except the "panhandle" areas of both states) was part of Georgia. Georgia sold this western territory to the federal government in 1802. Passports to MS Is anyone familiar with the book: "Passports of Southeastern Pioneers 1770-1823" by Dorothy Williams Potter ? My understanding is that the 1805 treaty with the Creek Indians provided that anyone traveling through their boundaries must have a passport and this book lists around 5000 of them. Thanks

Dear Bill and others: The "C.Bryant" you asked about who served in the "Bartow Avengers", Company K 31st Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, was CASSON BRYANT (Bryant) SASSER. He was born in 1843 in Lee County, Georgia, the son of ABRAHAM J. SASSER and his first wife. I don't know the name Abraham's first wife. She died soon after Bryant was born and Abraham later married 2nd to Margaret E. COOK in 1845. The Madison you asked about was MADISON T. SASSER, the oldest son of ABRAHAM J. and his first wife and a brother of Bryant. ABRAHAM J. was born in 1815 in either Johnston or Wayne Counties, NC. As yet, I have not discovered who his parents were. Can anyone help on this? Robert Earl Woodham

John Sasser, age 37, born Lowndes County, GA, enlisted as a private in Company E., 2nd. Regiment, Florida Cavalary (U.S.), 15 April 1864, at Key West, FL. This company was formed there and he was enlisted by Capt. John Woods. John Sasser was shown as a mechanic, blue eyes, sandy hair, 5' 8" tall and made his mark with an "X". A muster and descriptive roll shows him as a refugee from the Confederacy. He died at Cedar Key, FL, 6 October 1864, of Typhoid Fever.

Rain and All. The cotton field where my little Brinson Cemetery is located was clear and had no mud puddles. However, Alex said that looks were deceiving and I would sink to my knees. So, guess I'll make another trip. I did locate the Little Buckhead Cemetery. I took as many photos of Brinson tombstones as I could locate. However, I did not see one for Adam and Mary Sheppard Brinson. It may be there as there were several that were smooth. I also have another ½ roll of film to get developed. I have Simeon and M.A. Brinson; J.P. and Nancy Brinson (no dates); Ralph H. Brinson; T.J. and Susanna Perkins Brinson; Annie Wallace Brinson; Josie Brinson Miller; Daniel C. and Junette Sasser Brinson; Nancy Brinson Ellison; Mary Elizabeth Brinson Griffin; Dora Alma Brinson; and Harlow A. Brinson; Also, have some from other cemeteries. I found Big Buckhead Church with a small cemetery across the road but didn't find any Brinsons. It only had about 5-6 graves but there may have been one behind the church. Didn't think to look there until after I left. Got a copy of bible record on Adam and Elizabeth Murphree Brinson that listed their dates of birth and marriage. Also their children. According the dobs, these are the ones buried in the cemetery in the cotton field. Copied a lot of "stuff" from the library and from Alex. Haven't digested all of it as yet. There is a copy of "Brinson Genealogy", compiled by C.D. Hollingsworth, Sylvania, GA, 1956. It has 48 pages and consists of a lot of records. If anyone is interested in what I have or copies of photos, let me know and I'l get it in the mail. Sasser Hi, This morning after Sunday School one of the men in our class asked if we had any relative in Mississippi named John Sasser. He mentioned that he was the son of the man hanged in Brookline, Mississippi. Mr. Carlisle's (the man in our class) great grandfather ______ Hilton's second wife was _______ Sasser. She was the brother of John Sasser and the daughter of John J. Sasser. Mr Carlisle is the get first names for me if he can; he also said that a decendent of this line is now a U. S. Representative from Mississippi. I don't know his first name. Carlisle said that the hanging was for murder. It seems there was a lot of trouble just after the Civil War when blacks were put into places of authority. When I know more about this "black sheep" I' let you know.

Actually, I don't have ANY of my Sasser family files on computer yet. What I am doing now is creating the "Sasser Family Index". I am doing this on Windows95's Works database. As of this moment, I have more than 3,200 names (ALL Sasser's--it doesn't allow for descendants in this particular Index) and I hope to work on it a lot more this weekend. I hope to soon start putting my Sasser records into my Family Tree Works family history program. My old computer had reached "overload" and went down on me before I could get started on this. Now with a new one, I have a lot more space to work with than before. This is going to take a good deal of time--and loads of typing. So please be patient... To answer the above question...yes, ALL my family collection (which numbers more than 3,000 notebooks and MANY boxes full of records) will be donated to the Georgia State Archives in Atlanta because it is the largest and most modern state archives in the South--where our family is most concentrated. When I had a heart attack and was about to go into surgery (and given only a 50-50 chance of survival), my two brothers came to me and asked for specific instructions--down to the nitty-gritty of "how big a truck", etc. More about this later...
