    3. Recently I have connected with the family information on Robert E. Sasser's web site www.hom.net/~rsasser/fammil.htm. I have had correspondence with Robert Sasser and he mentions there is a reference to a Benjamin Sasser Sr. who lived in Somerset Co. MD around the early 1700's. I have gone through most of the Sasser e-mails since I joined the group and found a Benjamin Sasser who was born 1755 in Dobbs Co. NC. He also lived in Duplin, Johnston, Wayne, and Columbus Co. I am wondering if there is a connection between these two Benjamins. Does anyone have any info? Maureen (monrene@pacbell.net)

    3. There is a strong possibility that the JOSIAH SASSER that severa of you have asked about is the same Josiah who was a son of ARTHUR SASSER and his wife ELIZABETH of Johnston County, NC. Arthur died about 1815. He left a will and estate records in which his son JOSIAH was named as an heir, along with seven daughters. One of his daughters, OBEDIANCE ("Beady"), married CHARLES KIRBY. There seems to have been a strong tie between the family and the Kirby family, starting at an early period. I have NO proof, however, that the Josiah of Laurel County, Kentucky is the SAME Josiah, son of Arthur. However, I can find no other Josiah that "fits the bill". Both the other two Josiah's from that period can be accounted for. And by the process of elimination, I believe the Josiah of Laurel County was the son of Arthur. I doubt if we will ever find documented proof though. Robert Earl

    3. Dear Jim, Please take a look at the SASSER FAMILY NATIONAL ASSOCIATION's Home page at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/9493/sasser.html This will give you an idea of what the family club is trying to do. One of our main goals is to gather and preserve our family history. I would greatly appreciate it if you would send me as much info and copies of records as you can on your descent; along with any other info you have of the family in Crenshaw and Covington Counties, Alabama. You said you would like to learn more about the "Georgia history". I assume you mean that of Howell's father, WILLIAM who moved from Johnston County, North Carolina and settled in Screven County, Georgia sometime in the 1780's. Howell and his brothers lived in Screven County for several years before the family began to expand all over the South. More later... Your cuz, Robert Earl Woodham 1130 Celia Dr. Columbus, Ga. 31907

I have most of that information, buit was having a hard time in connecting him to the Screven County, Georgia Sassers and those of the Carolinas.. If you would like more, jsasser@shreve.net I would like to learn more of the Georgia history... James R Sasser

    2. Robert Earl Woodham
    3. Dear Cousins, For all you cousins who have have posted messages on the List or who have contacted me personally about the ancestry of DELPHINE MONROE ("Dell", "Dill") SASSER, here is some good news. We have all been looking in the wrong place--in fact, the wrong state! Contrary to everyone's idea that he was from Covington County, Alabama, he was NOT. Covington County has had a very large concentration of our Sasser family since before 1820, when HOWELL SASSER settled there. All of the descendants in that county and several adjoining counties, especially Crenshaw, are all descended from HOWELL. Dell lived in Coffee County, adjoining Covington Co., for more than 60 years--most of his adult life. There have been a lot of other Sasser's who have lived in Coffee County (towns include Elba, Enterprise, New Brocton and Fort Rucker, the Army's helicopter Aviation Center is partly in the county). All the REST of them ARE descendants of Howell. But in Dell's case, he just happened to move to Coffee County and lived near enough to Covington County that some of his children ended up there too. Dell was buried at Brooklyn Church Cemetery in eastern Covington County, near the Coffee County line. Dell was actually born in Georgia. Where, I have not yet learned. By sheer accident, I just happened to find him with his parents in Webster County, Georgia listed on the 1880 US Census. Previously, a descendant told me he had learned Dell's mother was CHARITY WHITTLE. The census bears this out. Charity was listed as age 50, indicating she was born about 1830. Dell's father was JOHN B. SASSER, born in Putnam County, Georgia in 1826. Anyone descended from DELL, contact me. Your cuz, Robert Earl Woodham

    3. Can anyone help me with some information about JOSIAH SASSER ? He lived in Laurel Co, Ky. from about 1835 to at least 1843 and I find no record of him after that. He had a daughter ISABELLA SASSER who married KIRBY THOMAS 3 Mar 1843 and gave his consent for that marriage. Josiah was on the 1840 Laurel Co. census with a family of 6. He was 40 but under 50 years old according to that census. Then I find nothing further on him so I don't know if he possibly died before 1850 or moved on. Can anyone help with any further info on Josiah ? Patsy

I FINALLY got Packard Bell to admit they have to at least replace my Master CD. Contrary to all you who wrote me, I went ahead and did what the company told me to and "reformated" my hard drive. It wiped out all my programs and their Master CD did not restore ANY of them. I was using Word97 to write the new webpage site as well as word processing; and Works for its database (family indexes, etc.). Now, I can't look up anyone in the Index until I can get Packard Bell to either replace this computer or restore the programs. Up until a few moments ago, they kept refusing to admit any responsibility for any software problems. Maybe I will be "back up" in six months ??? NEVER buy a Packard Bell product. You are forewarned! 3. EXPERIENCE: Learning about headaches by beating youself on the head! Earl, let me suggest when you are having computer problems, ask on the list before you re-format anything. P-B cannot restore a reformatted hard drive, it is gone! If it is any help, I can tell you where to find Corel 8, (Wordperfect, Quattro Pro), academic version for about $46. If you are a senior citizen, you can qualify. I have Corel 7, and WP publishes webpages, better than most HTML editors, and it comes with a great wordprocessor, and you can't beat Quattro Pro for a spread sheet. 3. Dear Michele, It's working now. I got it easy by clicking on the address on your email. It may have been "down" briefly when you tried it. But as of Monday afternoon (1:20 PM Eastern time), it is working fine. Hope you like it. However, right now, I can't do any more work on it (except with GeoCities' online HTML editor) because my computer manufacturer advised me to "restore" (or reformat) my hard drive to try and correct all the huge problems I was having. Now, I don't have Word97 (a word processing program with a built-in webpublishing program in it), Microsoft Works (with its database that I kept my family Index's in) and more. All that was wiped off the computer and their Master CD does not restore it. Now, Packard Bell says they are not responsible for "software" problems. Microsoft says they are not responsible for any software installed by the manufacturer. Anybody know a good, cheap lawyer? Robert Earl

For Saturday I have reserved the Lake House (large party room) at the Navy Lake in Millington from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will be plenty of fun activities inside as well as outside. There will be canoes for rent, fishing, a volleyball area, softball area, horse shoes, walking trails and more. Inside we'll have board games for all ages along with other things to keep us entertained. We plan to have a koraoke machine, so bring accompaniment tapes if you have any. This is something I'm really looking forward to!!! Our noon meal will be catered and later - six o'clock or so - we will have pizza brought in. During the '92 reunion most stayed in the Admiralty Suites and Inn in Millington. This is still a nice place to stay, however, all the rooms are booked for that weekend, although, they do have suites available. Their phone number is included on an attached page. The same owners have opened a new inn, Admiralty Plantation Oaks, three miles south of Millington, still on Hwy 51 North. Here they have blocked off five rooms at $48.95 plus tax a night and five king suites with kitchens for $64.95 a night. The restaurant we'll be at on Friday night is next door. I'm asking $15.00 for each person planning to attend. This includes everything for Saturday - the rent for the Lake House, both meals and there will be soft drinks, tea, coffee and etc. through the day for all. My adult children end I are working hard to make sure there will be something for everyone to enjoy. We want to make your trip to Tennessee a great one. I am asking that you let me know as soon as you can if you will be able to join in the fun weekend. 3. Is anyone out there researching the Sasser family of Johnston Co., N.C. and Laurel/Knox Co., Ky. ??? I am working on the following family: Arthur Sasser and wife Elizabeth. Arthur died 1815 in Johnston Co. His children according to his will: Josiah Nancy Edith Sally Elizabeth Ceily Fanny Beady The will has witness Thomas Kirby. Henry Sasser-Friend and son Josiah are the executors. Then the will of Edith Sasser in 1816. Brother Josiah, sisters Nancy, Sally, Elizabeth, Ceilly, Penny, Beady, and "my favorite Lilldy". She appoints her friend Henry Sasser as executor. Thomas & Charles Kirby were witnesses. Josiah was in Johnston Co., N.C. in 1830. He disappeared from there and I located a Josiah in Laurel Co., Ky. on the 1840 census. I am assuming/hoping that it's the same Josiah and if so then he moved there about 1835. Josiah's daughter, Isabella, married Kirby Thomas in 1843 in Laurel Co., Ky. Does anyone know anything more about this family...who Josiah's other children were, who he married, when & where he died ??? Thanks for any and all help you can offer. Patsy

    3. I am looking for a Smithey Sasser from N.C. born 1816. She is not the daughter of Nancy Kirby & Henry Sasser but was living in Laurel Co., Ky. at the same time as they were. Henry & family and Smithey arrived in Laurel Co. around 1835. Henry & Nancy are from Johnston Co., N.C. I am trying to find proof that Smithey is related to them possibly a niece, etc. and/or that she is also from Johnston Co., N.C. There is also a Josiah Sasser mentioned briefly in the Laurel Co., Ky. records and he is the correct age to be Smithey's father. Could Josiah be related to Henry Sasser possible cousin, etc. Josiah had a daughter Isabella that married Kirby Thomas in 1843 in Laurel Co., Ky. Henry & Nancy Sasser had a dau. Martha and she married Joseph Bodkins, brother to my James Bodkins. Martha named her daughter Smithey. Smithey married James H. Bodkins in Knox Co., Ky. in 1838 (right next to Laurel Co.) and they lived close to Henry Sasser in 1840 Laurel Co, in 1850 they lived in Knox Co., Ky., in 1860 in Jessamine Co., Ky, in 1870 & 1880 they lived in Franklin Co., Ky. Both Smithey and James Bodkins died in 1888 in Franklin Co. Can anyone help me unravel Smithey Sasser's past prior to 1838 ??? Thanks for any and all help you can offer.....Patsy

    3. Dear Adrian, Thanks a million for the offer of help. I FINALLY got the Sasser Family Association webpages MOVED last night to GeoCities. It took several hours of work because I had to move each gif file (photos, headlines, titles, artwork, etc.) a handful at a time. Counting the Sasser family (Mama's) and Daddy's family AND the Dale County, Alabama AlGenWeb (part of the USGenWeb Project) which I sponsor, that was a real night of work. Now, I have to work out the kinks (and links !). Thank god, my cantankerous computer can't mess it up once I have uploaded the files or pages to GeoCities. I discovered it is best just to upload a page to their file manager--THEN work on the mess that my computer made. I was able to straighten out columns of info easily that my computer kept jamming together and making a mess out of. I will keep the pages on the old site for the rest of this month but you can now see the new pages at: http//www.geocities.com/~rewoodham/sasser.html Bookmark this new address and keep up with news of the family in the newsletter. You can jump to the newsletter and other pages from the Home page above. You won't believe how good I feel about this--after working on it for literally hundreds of hours over the last TWO MONTHS !! It would have so simple if the new computer worked properly. More later... your cuz, Robert Earl Woodham
