    3. re Captain John Sapp, The following indicates he was in the Revolutionary War at the Battle of the Cow Pens. The Henkel Genealogy 1500-1960 p911, #651 Casper Hinkle, b 1762 in Germantown, Philadelphia Co, PA, d abt 1839 in MO. Casper Hinkle Sr., enlisted Sept 10, 1780 in the Revolutionary War, serving under Captain John Sapp for 3 months tour of duty. Re-enlisted Dec 16, 1780 in the same company for an additional 3 months service. >From his pension application: "Casper Hinkle born in Phila(delphia) 1762, son of Chass. (Captain Charles) Hinkle who removed to N.C. and resided in Rowan Co. Casper entered service in (September 10) 1780 under Capt. John Sapp for a term of three months and again in Dec. (December 16) 1780 for a like term. Went against the Torries & guarded prisoners taken at Cowpens. Returned home found father Capt. Chas. Hinkle apprehensive of attack by the Torries and they went to the camp of General Greene encamped at (or) on the Spirgins--a colonel of theTorries & were placed under guard. .....(more) contributed by George Sapp...
