Claxton is in Evans County, Georgia west of Statesboro, Georgia. Claxton is the "Fruit Cake Capital" of the world. All those Claxton Fruit Cakes you see in the stores come from there. Most of its history and people are well documented and available through family histories and manuscripts. Lots of Sapps were founders and early pioneers of Tattnall County, Georgia and can be found in their county records over the years. Many Sapp descendants still live in the area. Evans County was carved out of Tattnall and Bulloch County later.
