Cousins, I have not asked for any specific format for your posts to our surname list, and I am not going to be "bossy" about one now - this is OUR list, not mine - I just do the computer stuff for it - HOWEVER - lots of folks sort (and delete) their mail by what is (or is not) in the subject line of the posts. If the surname you are asking about in a query is the FIRST WORD of the subject line, your cousins will be more likely to see the post, which will be more helpful to you. Another thing that will help you is to put the STATE or PROVINCE (or country, if other than the US or Canada) where these ancestors lived somewhere in the subject line. If you are volunteering to do lookups, asking a general question, or anything other than posting a query, of course, this would not be applicable - you would NOT need to put the surname as the first word in the subject line, but would need to put a clear indication of what your post is about. As stated, this is NOT a "rule" for the list - YOU are sending the query and YOU are the one to decide how you want the subject line to read. This is only a suggestion that might help you find more connections.
