    2. Hello my name is Shelia Sapp-Olander and I am at a road block. I have gone back to Levi S. Sapp b. Jan 8, 1761 somewhere in Va. m. Celia Unknown. They had their first child Enoch b 1790 in Va. Levi and Celia then moved to Ga where they had the remaining 7 children would like to find out where Levi & Celia were born and who their parents and siblings were. If anyone could help that would be great. I have FTM (Family Tree Maker) and would be willing to share all info with anyone. I have approximately 3700 names in my database but really want to find info on Levi and his parents and siblings. Thanks and good luck to all. Shelia

    3. I am a new Sapp Researcher and new to the Sapp List. Sapp is my husband's family and until last Friday, all I had were a bunch of pieces collected while in the South recently and I had not been able to put together much of anything. Friday, I found on one of the World Family Tree CDs enough info to start putting many of my pieces together. On Saturday, I was at a FHC where I found more info to complement what I had found already. (Among the things I found in the FHC database was that Benjamin Sapp, b. abt 1730 in Kent, MD; m. to Dorothy, d. aft 1790, Stokes Co., NC, is the son of Henry Sapp, b. abt 1698 at Kent, DE; m. Ann Moore and d. aft 2 May 1743. This is a response to Tammy E. Dollar's 8/17 message. I don't know who submitted this info nor the sources/support they had for it, but I will try to find out.) Now to my pieces which I have not proven as yet, but hope to and would appreciate any input any of you might have. First Generation: Benjamin SAPP, b. abt 1730, Kent, MD, d. aft 1790, Stokes, NC; and m. Dorothy ?, b. 1733, Calvert, MD and d. ?, Stokes, NC. LaVaughn's and Alma's ch are: Deborah Yvonne HALE, Tammy Denise HALE and David Alan BEASLEY. This seems like a lot of info, BUT there is still much of this to be verified. There are a number of sources for the info listed. Some of it was found in an old family Bible that dates back to the late 1700's; some from letters, notes and the such found this summer in an old trunk belonging to Mintie SMITH BEASLEY. (Among the things found in the trunk were a number of pictures--old golden tone ones on cardboard, which only one marked as to who it is-- W. H. SMITH and Family, dated 1888. There were also a number of tin type pictures which were unidentified. Maybe sometime connections can be made.) I have made contact by telephone and in person while in the South recently with Sapp researchers who have freely shared info and last, but certainly not least, on the computer at the Mormon Family History Center last Saturday. I will continue to search films, books and other records, but any input any of you might have will be greatly appreciated. Alma L. Beasley Placentia, CA (NOTE: I am having trouble with my computer and I have my son's while he works on mine; hence the reason for two addresses. When mine is finished, I will advise of a change of email address.) TO: Kathryn Rhinehart Bassett (Pasadena, CA)-- So far I haven't made any connections with the Missouri Sapps, but who knows. I have known the name less than one month, so who knows what will turn up. I have spoken to Sapp researchers in TN, VA and TX who knows where is next. So for my part, I would like to receive the info to the list. Who knows some of us might even be able to help analyze the many pieces. 3. > Kathryn, I would ask that you continue this discussion on list if > you would. Oh, I fully intend to keep the list informed. I was thinking more on the lines of doing some background stuff in preparation for going to SLC, then posting a cumulative message telling just what we all have on this group. Many people don't know how to snip non-pertinent parts of messages, so my idea is to put everything in one post so that it won't be so confusing, nor will it have lots of quotes of quotes. Being a list maintainer myself (Rippetoe - John & Marium Sapp's dau Matilda married John T Rippeto), I know the importance of everyone sharing their info. Last night I spent over an hour, and over an hour today, just analyzing the messages of the past few days, along with info from Familytreemaker online sites. --        Kathryn Rhinehart Bassett (Pasadena CA)              kathryn.bassett@switchboard.net         "genealogy is my bag" "GH is my soap"     http://pw2.netcom.com/~kathrynb/kathryn.htm

Who else is there working on that particular group? And Melody, what's your last name?. I'm making a "group" in my email addresses so that we can work on hashing this out without putting lots of speculations into the regular list. Then we can post conclusions and/or summations to the list as appropriate. I will be going to SLC in Oct (will still have email access). Marilyn won't be sure if she can go til the last minute. Whatever detail we have before going will help in sorting this stuff out with SLC resources. I've printed out all these recent Boone Co messages and have put them in the Sapp workbook. This is an exciting project. --        Kathryn Rhinehart Bassett (Pasadena CA)              kathryn.bassett@switchboard.net         "genealogy is my bag" "GH is my soap"     http://pw2.netcom.com/~kathrynb/kathryn.htm

    3. George, Thank you for your response to my speculation about Noah and Levi Sapp. I am thrilled. Since I just put W.B. With your speculations I will have new direction for my search. Thank you again, Debbie

Debbie Clark > > ==== SAPP Mailing List ==== > Submit your oldest Sapp ancestor (prefer before 1850) to: Sapp-L@rootsweb.com Debbie, I think your hypothesis is right about Noah Sapp being a nephew of Levi Sapp. I have been corresponding with Melody Byrd mkwtb@aol.com, and Lorene McClellan applegram@aol.com, about their ancestor Mathew Sapp of Boone Co, MO and Pike Co, IL. We speculate that Mathew was a son of Noah Sapp (he has a son of appropriate age in the 1830 and 1840 census', 3 years older than your Wm B, who is also in those census' of appropriate age). We also speculate that Noah was the son of Matthew in the 1830 Boone Co census (Matthew and Noah had adjoining farms there). It is interesting that both Matthew and Levi apparently are from DE. (Levi known born there; Noah, presumed son of Matthew, known born there from 1850 census). I haven't seen the 1820 KY census records yet, but I think both Matthew and Levi are there. Maybe someone out there has those census records to share. George Sapp

    1. Re: Boone Co MO Sapps are originally from DE
    2. Hi Kathryn, I too am interested in the Boone Co. SAPPs. In particular, I have been looking for the parents of Mathew Sapp b. 1822 in Lincoln Co. MO. married Elizabeth WATTS in 1842 Lincoln Co. MO ( by 1849 they were living in Atlas, Pike Co. IL and lived out the rest of his lives there). Based on proximity and age ranges but mostly on a hunch, I believe that Mathew's father was Noah (as Noah was the only Sapp with a son the right age to be the younger Mathew) and his grandfather was Matthew who moved to MO from KY. I have been unable to locate will/probate info on Matthew, which would help greatly if it listed his heirs (family). According to the information being passed between yourself and Debbie Clark and other misc. tidbits I've received from George Sapp and others, I now think that Matthew and Levi could very possibly be brothers. Your thoughts that Marium was the daughter of Matthew fit with the 1810 KY census re Matthew, assuming that her birth date were around the same time as her husband/cousin John Sapp (b.1804). If the tidbits I have gathered are correct Noah's family would have looked like this in 1840 Boone Co.: Noah b. abt 1790 Kent County, DE ....Nancy (Butler) b. 1797 VA ........Mathew b. 1822 Lincoln Co. MO ........Polly b. 5/18/1826 MO ........unknown daughter ........Mary b. 1829 MO. ........William B. b. 1826 MO ........Newton b. 1839 MO George Sapp is also interested in the Boone Co. Sapps....he has been very helpful to me.....he has a great nack for theorizing.....gathering information and putting it together! He is the one who lead me to Kentucky. If you have any information to help verify or discount or add to the above, I would be delighted to know. Could Levi and Matthew indeed be brothers. Is Noah the son of Matthew? Is Mathew b.1822 the son of Noah? Thanks for your help Melody

    3. Hello Kathryn, You wrote: "Your W.B.Sapp almost certainly is a grandson of Levi Sapp and Traney/Trana Williams. Here is his family. Note that the family moved from Delaware to Boone County Missouri...." After receiving your Missouri/Delaware Sapp family information I pulled out my census data again and made a new discovery that I had previously glossed over. I found in the 1850 Cedar Twp. Boone Co. Missouri Census, the following entry: Noah Sapp 59 M Farmer Delaware Nancy " 53 F Virginia Wm. B. " 24 M Farmer Missouri Mary " 21 F " Newton " 11 M " The ages all fit that this is my W. B. Sapp and he is shown with his parents Noah and Nancy! They are also listed in and among the other Sapps from your group sheet as well as Crumps and Nichols. I am now unable to plug Noah into your family group sheet. I found all of the Sapps in the census that you were referring to, but Noah was not one you mentioned. In 1850 Levi Sapp was 74 and his wife Trana was 65. It is improbable for Noah to be a son of Levi and Trana. I now hypothesize that Noah is either a younger brother or nephew of Levi that followed Levi from Delaware to Missouri. Do you have any clue as to the relationship between Noah Sapp and Levi Sapp? Thanks again, you have opened up new avenues for me. Debbie Clark

    2. This is my Sapp line- there is controversy over John's wife (or wives) Elizabeth. Maybe King, maybe Sanders, maybe both.... or maybe John is really John Jr and Sr....Another possibility is that he deserted the first Elizabeth to marry the second.....Pretty muddy huh? John was a silversmith/ watchmaker who was in Augusta GA area before going to Rhea Co, near Dayton, TN where he switched to running a grist mill. Elizabeth died and John married Winnifred who was not popular with her step children. John's daughter Mary married Charles Harrison Richards to get away from her stepmother and the whole (or much of) clan moved to Blount Co AL before settling in Shelby Co TX ca 1830's. 3. Dear Threezp, You wrote directly to me as well as via the Sapp List requesting information on Bennett Sapp and children from North Florida. I found the following in my records which may be the family you are seeking. Bennett is a very unusual name so this is likely your family. I have two census records of interest. >From the 1880 Taylor Co. FL Census 23/23 pg 3 (352) Shady Grove, Taylor Co. S Sep 1898 1 FL I an sure that the Bennett Sapp shown as son of Andrew Sapp is the B. D. Sapp in the 1900 Census. Could B. D. be Bennett Dempsey?? Who A. E., M. L. , A. J., and E. O. are I do not know but they can easily be matched to the some of the names of Bennett's children that you listed. I do not have them in other census records. Hope this helps. Let me know if this is a fit.
