Hi all, I made it to the Archives for the first time yesterday and managed to get a bit of information after learning how to use the facility. Thought I would pass it on even though some of it is repetitious for some of us. I only searched for all Missouri Sapps indexed, on this trip. Listed are: name, county, census page #, township/district etc., and family count for 1830 and 1840 census. At this time I have no family count on the 1850 & 1860 census...only the index listing head of household. I apologize for any mistakes this listing may have....I was very careful in my transcribing, but these indexes were not the easiest to read! Hope this helps some of you! >From Roots-L: The entire GenConnect system will be upgraded starting at midnight on Saturday September 5, 1998. This will require that we shut the system down. The reason is twofold ..... it's not just a patch .... it's a re-write of the program that runs the system. Also, the Global Search engine has been revamped and mega-enhanced, which will require a total rebuild. No new postings can be allowed during this rebuilding period. Downtime is estimated to be 8 hours max (yep .... it's a huge system now!). Anyone attempting to use the system during this downtime will be given notice that it's being upgraded .... no-one will be left in the dark. However, you could help us make this a smoother transition if you would spread the word on any and all of the major mailing lists that you may be subbed to (ROOTS-l, xxROOTS-L, your county lists, surname lists, etc.). Will you help us by doing this? Bill Boulineau Antigo, WI wbouline@newnorth.net Rootsweb Sponsor

The Matthew born in 1816 is not the older Matthew's son (he has no male children in the 1830 census when he was 14). He is not Noah's son, if we accept the Pike Co Daniel as the 10/15 year old in Noah's 1830 Boone Co census. It seems logical this is Mathew's brother since they are adjacent in the 1850 Pike Co census. We don't know John C's family, but he is only 16 in 1816 when Matthew was born, and Peter is only 14. These two, Matthew (b 1816) and Daniel (b 1821) must be relatives, since they are living on Peter's farm in 1850 (there is no land patent for either in section 29 where Peter probably lived in 1850), but I can't figure out whose they are. Levi's kin don't fit either. Maybe the 1820 KY census would give a clue. George..

Hi George, Just getting back in the swing of things since mother passed on, so thought I'd fill you in on some new news (at least for me it was new). About a week or so ago I received a copy of the 1850 Boone County census pages for Noah and Matthew. I was certainly curious about Matthew since he had disappeared from the 1840 Boone Co census. I thought perhaps he was re-appearing in the 1850 census as an 80 or 90 year old man. To my surprise, when the census pages arrived, I found we have another Matthew on our hands!! This Matthew is 34 in 1850, making his bithdate 1816. He was born in Kentucky! He is living next door to Daniel 29 yrs. and Daniel next door to Peter 48 yrs. Noah 59 yrs. is also listed in this census but on a different page. Matthew's family listed are: Mariah 27 yrs b. KY John H 9 yrs b. KY Melissa 7 yrs b. MO Elizabeth 5 yrs b.MO Noah A 3 yrs b. MO Mary 1 yr b. MO What do you make of this new Matthew!!? Is there anyone out there that knows of this family? Melody

This relationship is repeated by Louise A Solis in the Newsletter of July 1997, p8, where she calls the son Nathaniel. Her email address is solis@teleport.com, and she says she would like to correspond with anyone in this line. There is an Emanuel in the KY tax list for Green Co in 1800, and an Imanuel (must be same person) in the 1810 census for Green Co, KY, age 26/45 (Emanuel would be 35). He has 2 sons under 10 (Nathan(iel)) would be 11. GGSapp
I was hoping I wouldn't have to make comments like this, but I guess I will. I am the listowner for Sapp-L and I will decide what is appropriate and what isn't. I would hope that mature wisdom, but I guess not. It is not appropriate to criticize others comment that they make in good faith. If I feel the comments are inappropriate, I will let the individuals know about it privately. When you signed up for this list, you received a list of do's and don'ts and I would advise you review them before anymoe critical statements, or it could be your last. If anyone thinks they have something to discuss with me, you have my address. ListOwner Bill Boulineau Antigo, WI wbouline@newnorth.net Rootsweb Sponsor

Following the eight generations listed (for info only--NOT cast in concrete) were the following comments as to my intentions for verifications, as well as sources for most of the info listed in the eight generations. This seems like a lot of info, BUT there is still much of this to be verified. There are a number of sources for the info listed. Some of it was found in an old family Bible that dates back to the late 1700's; some from letters, notes and the such found this summer in an old trunk belonging to Mintie SMITH BEASLEY. (Among the things found in the trunk were a number of pictures--old golden tone ones on cardboard, which only one marked as to who it is-- W. H. SMITH and Family, dated 1888. There were also a number of tin type pictures which were unidentified. Maybe sometime connections can be made.) I have made contact by telephone and in person while in the South recently with Sapp researchers who have freely shared info and last, but certainly not least, on the computer at the Mormon Family History Center last Saturday. I will continue to search films, books and other records, but any input any of you might have will be greatly appreciated. In addition, I spent a couple of hours or more on the telephone yesterday, prior to sending the message, with a gentleman who has published a book on the Sapp Family and has been quite involved with a historical society in Tennessee where my line of Sapps eventually settled. I didn't mention this as one of my sources because I am waiting to receive copies of documents, etc. that he is sending. > A few months ago I manned an exhibit across the aisle from Broderbund, > having to listen to the nonsense, and sometimes outright distortions > they were putting out. Special to David Beasley -- David, it appears you may have succombed to the disease that has infected many of us who have gone before in over reliance on 'the easy way.'
