    2. In a message dated 2/13/99 4:41:37 PM Central Standard Time, SAPP-D- request@rootsweb.com writes: << My wife is a descendent of Middleton SAPP who lived in Lawrence Co. AL during the mid 1800s. He was reportedly born in Rhea Co. TN the son of John and Winnifred Anderson SAPP. A John SAPP placed an advertisement in the 1797 Augusta Ga. Chronicle stating that he had set up shop in Louisville and offered his services as a clock and watch maker, silver smith, and the repair of surveyors instruments. At this time John was reportedly married to an Elizabeth KING. John and family then removed to Rhea Co TN where John operated a mill. Wife Elizabeth died and he married Winnifred ANDERSON. The family moves to Blount Co. AL in about 1830. Middleton remains in AL but John and Winnifred move to Shelby Co. Texas where he is enumerated on the 1850 census as an 86 year old Clockmaker. Most researchers link this John SAPP to the John SAPP of the 1790 Surry / Stokes Co. NC census. I have recently noticed, however, that the SAPP family of Burke Co. Ga. also married into an ANDERSON family and also had a descendent named Middleton SAPP in about the same time period as our Middleton. Can anyone help to better identify 'John the Clockmaker' ? Thanks Ted & Joyce. >> Dear Ted & Joyce I am also a descendant of this John Sapp by way of his daughter Mary who married Charles Harrison Richards. You have described to a tee what I know of this John Sapp. I know a considerable amount about Mary and her line and of the Sapps who went to Shelby Co. My grandmother was born and raised there as was her father. Her grandfather, John S (Sapp?) Richards is Mary's son. There seems to be no record of old John's death after 1850 in Shelby County and oral history is that he returned to Blount Co AL where he died. I do know that his jeweler's hammer, a very delicate instrument is in the hands of one of his descendants and I hope to get a picture of it. There is a lady in Timpson, Shelby Co, Texas who has studied the Sapps for years. She is not on line but I can get you a phone number if you want to call her. She is also a descendant of Winnifred Anderson. She says Winnifred did not like her step kids and was the subject of tales for generations because she made the stepkids sleep in the chicken koop when her brother came to visit. Mary told her children that she married so young to get away from Winnifred. Don't know how true it all was- my Shelby Co relatives are prone to tall tales, all true of course. I also have some stories about the Sapps from an old newspaper article. John S Richards died and his widow Caroline/Calline/Callie Conway Richards (my 2nd gggm) married BD Sapp in his later years. BD and Calline were both hot tempered folks who didnot get along well and were divorcing when he died. The lawyer took action against the estate because he didn't get paid. Family lore has it that old BD Sapp kept all his considerable riches in an old trunk which he kept locked. Calline did not want him to have his stuff, so she took her shotgun and blew his trunk apart. After that Calline went to live with her son and his family, so my grandma grew up with Calline Conway Richards Sapp. My grandma was a great story teller. I also have doubts about old John's origins and his wife Elizabeth King and/or Elizabeth Sanders. I had noticed those Burke Co GA connections a while back but still don't know what to think Melinda

    1. Asking for a Lookup Please!
    2. Hi, Does anyone has access to Missouri Pioneers, compiled and published by Nadine Hodges and Howard Woodruff. I understand this to be a 30 volume series of extractions of various records from various Missouri counties. Contents are by county and I am interested in Lincoln County records as follows for any surname SAPP and WATTS: Will Books A & B 1825-1865 (vol. 23) Early Tax List 1821 (vol. 3) Patrons of Atlas of 1876 (vol.15) Also, I would be interested in a lookup in a book titled Missouri Taxpayers, 1819-1826 by Lois Stanley, George Wilson and Maryhelen Wilson. 144 pages with index. Again looking for Sapp and Watts. Thanks so much,,,,,,,the Seattle Public Library does not have the latter book and the first book I was unable to locate these volumes......I have tried a couple times, but the library is 40 miles away and it is difficult to make that trip very often! 1. John Sapp Line
    2. Laurel Burns
    3. Hi, Bill I am a recent subscriber to this mail list. I caught your John SAPP line and was happy to see it. Betty Siros BURNS is my mother. I know a couple of additions to the bottom part of your list --- We had slightly differing dates -- generally indicating uncertainty, but a couple of different death dates. I imagine most of that data (for Forsyth B. Sapp's family) came from my mom. If you have different information, please let me know. Mostly I just have some ramblings and musings at the bottom of this. F. The wife of Forsyth B. SAPP (born 1811 in Burke Co., GA.) was Julia A. BRYANT. My mom had she was born in 1826-1830 in Lowndes Co., Al. and that she died in Montgomery Co., TX after 1890. ( I imagine your information for her was mainly from my mom - - I imagine the gedcom file could only tolerate one date, correct?) Forsyth B. SAPP and Julia A. BRYANT had the following children: 1. Forsyth Hartwell SAPP. I have a question about this one but I'll list it below. 2. Wyatt A. SAPP was born in 1846-7 in Muscogee Co., GA. He died in TX. (Montgomery County??) (again just a little more uncertainty in the date...likely location of death) Sarah A. FELKER (Sallie) was born 1850. Wyatt and Sallie were married 29 April, 1870 in Montgomery Co., TX. (Montgomery Co. TX Bk.2:229 ) She died in 1886/7 in Montgomery/Grimes Co. TX. (dates differed quite a bit here) He married again after she died, but I can't put my hands on the info right now. Wyatt A. SAPP and Sarah FELKER had the following children: a. Emma Julia SAPP. (Commonly went by Julia Emma SAPP) born 15 February, 1871 In Montgomery Co. TX She died 5 January, 1935 in Houston, TX. She married James Eugene SIROS/SIROT, born 20 December, 1859 in Houston ,TX. He died 24 August, 1937 in Houston, TX. They had 7 children. They divorced and she married two more times. b. Maud SAPP. (She went to Forsythe's second wedding as Maud SAPP --- so maybe she never married or married later. Like I said, I can't find the info right now). 13. Ella SAPP was born in 1867 in Montgomery Co., TX. (just included here because I mentioned her below) QUESTIONS & COMMENTS: 1. Do you know who Phillip F. SAPP is in 1830 Randolph Co. GA Census? 2. The searchable web site for the Confederate Pension list of the Texas State Archives has 2 applications for a Confederate pension in Texas for Hartwell Thomas SAPP -- one by himself (Pension Number: 26614) and one by Mrs. L. A. SAPP (listed as his wife). Her request lists two pension numbers (35939 presumably for her request, and the original one 26614) Both of these were for Harris county, Texas... presumably this is Madison and Martha's son -- 3. This Confederate Pension site also has the following - Ella Sapp as a Claimant for --- Husband: Forsyth H. SAPP in Mclennan Co. TX for Confederate Pension; Pension Number, 19950 -- Texas State Archives --- Since there are 2 Forsyth H. SAPPs... one the son of Madison and one the son of Forsyth B. above... Ideas? Ella is also supposed to be the name of the younger Forsyth's H. --(the one that's the son of Forsyth B.'s) -- youngest sister. ( There are other Sapps on that pension list as well. Maybe some from your list. ) Hope some of this helps. I'll be curious to hear what you or anyone thinks. Laurel Burns

    3. This isn't genealogy but you may find your ancestor's name or your's. It's for unclaimed property. It covers all states, can search by surname or whole name, all I checked started with Fl first but other states followed, I req max 200 results on surname searches & still not sure I had all of them. Monies or valuables are owed by utility co, ins co, banks, govt, safe dep boxes, etc and range from $1.00 to thousands plus some people are owed by multiple places - one I found had 15 accts. Evidently that couple (found male & female name with same add) either had an untimely death or something happen & the family isn't aware of all the accts. One acct had $6650. in it & I only looked at a few. Two members of my family were found. One claimed their money from a deceased relative & the other forgot or didn't know he was owed money. He's ck on it now. Happy hunting & hope you find something owed to you or your family. Go to: http://www.unclaimed-property.com Jean dmerritt@erie.net

I was not sure what to make of it. It looked like mine but some dates were not right and some folks missing. Anyway, your are the one who told me about the Family Tree Maker software. Thanks...I have been able to spend a little more time on this and hope to pay a visit to the National Archives soon to check some of the information out. My Dad, Jason Westberry Sapp DOB 06/20/33 Still living His Dad, Jason Westberry Sapp DOB 1909 or 1908 Died 1936 married : Julia Crum My Dad says that his father brothers: Reuben and George and a sister: Alice (Sapp) Ray According to the census data I have for 1910 Bevien County GA Head of Household : William H. Sapp BORN 1856 Wife: Evie BORN 1888 Three Children: Alice BORN 1906 George BORN 1908 Jason BORN 1909-10 (4/12)age listed Father of William: Levy Sapp BORN 1830 Mother of William: Eliza A. BORN 1831 They had been married 60 years at the time with 11 children, 9 still living in 1910. Sister of William: Sarah Ann Holland BORN 1858 (Divorced) These are all the people living in the house on a farm at the time of the census. It is possible that these people are not my line as this census data was sent to me many years ago by a distant cousin, not in the Sapp line, who was doing some research on her line. CRUM. There is a William Henry who married Evie (Evia A Tompkins) in 1905 in Adel, Cook County, GA. But this marriage record (FTM) says that William Henry was born 6/20/1860. (That's a 4 year discrepancy) And Eligal was born 1831 and married Levy 1850. Also said that Levy Born 1830 or 1829 married Eligal 1850. Levy(i)'s wife Eliza may also be called Eligal A Also Alice Sapp Ray BORN 1906 Married and had 2 children , Hazel who married Billy or Bobby Thompson and Leroy Ray. These folks were last known to be in the Adel, Moultrie,Tifton area. This information came straight from my Dad. He remembers them. He doesn't know what happened to the others as when his dad, Jason Westberry, died of pneumonia my dad was only 3 years old and he doesn't remember seeing any of them around after that. If it helps...Jason Westberry Sapp BORN 1909 in Bevier County Ga married my Grandmother, Julia Crum. She had Sisters: Lou Crum and Mary Crum Adams. (Mary's daughter is Clara)Clara is the cousin that sent the census. I have not been able to find her. Julia had 2 brothers that my dad remembers: Artie who married Adda Bonnell who had children; Bonnie, Ruth, Arnell and a boy. Julia Crums Dad's name is John Daniel Crum and her Mom is Annie Baker Crum. These things I sorta kinda think are pretty factual(skimpy as they are). Just in case this helps...This I know for fact. In case there is a link out there to tie it up... My Dad : Jason Westberry Sapp B. 06/20/33 My Mom: Madlyn Jean Owens B. 01/12/34 Married; 12/31/1952 in Montgomery County MD. 12222 Selfridge Road Viers Mill, (my Grams house.) Who should I start with? If you can help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Joanne --------------CE6ABAF4C454E14F066F9C79--
