For you guys that haven't gotten the word, this is the LDS site where you can search the IGI and Ancestry files for surnames. You have to enter a given and surname, but with a little work you might just find something. I have spent about four hours the last couple of days, and it is a really nifty site. Both addresses are for the same place, so take your pick. I had no problems accessing the site, but you will, just to make me wrong.:>)-Bill http://32.96.111.13/Browse/BrowseVital.asp http://familysearch.org/
Hello Melody and list, In regards to the off list discussion of John & Miriam Sapp. I too am sorry that it was not on the list, as I am interested in all of the Sapps of Missouri, particularly Boone County. I am new at this and still trying to piece it all together. The sharing of information and how conclusions were reached on the list would be of interest to me. It might even trigger information that I or someone else could share. Thanks, Debbie
Apologies........I should have mentioned in my last posting that the Missouri Taxpayers List 1819-1826 lists only one Sapp......that being a John Sapp in Hurricane township 1821. Melody
To George and all you Sapp searchers! There was no actual census for 1820. However I located a reference to a tax list at the National Archives and ordered a copy of the same from The Missouri State Archives. It's titled Missouri Taxpayers 1819-1826. It appears to be compiled from several sources including Lincoln County: Delinquents 1819 (from the Missouri Republican), Assessor's List for 1821 (from the 1878 Lincoln County Atlas) and miscellaneous legal taxes from the state archives of Missouri. The listings that came from the atlas gave townships where known. The list contains 167 different surnames with many surnames having several given names. I'd be glad to share the list, if anyone would like a lookup. I also sent this information to Robert to include on the Sapp Family History Archive Page. I agree George, everyone should post all queries and the responses to the list....if the information is not useful to us, (and you don't collect all or most of it like I do....never know when something might tie in later)! I'm sure we all know where the delete button is!! Melody
I am researching my g-grandmother Rhoda Sapp b. AL dtr of Hilliard Sapp and Margaret Murphree. My grandmother was Laura Elizabeth Lane b. TX dtr of Rhoda Sapp and James A. Lane. She m. James M. Frazier b. MS. Laura died in 1947 in Timpson, TX. Hilliard Sapp's parents were John Sapp and Elizabeth King. Does anyone have a connection with this line of Sapps? Thanks, Barbara Frazier Askins
Wanted to say THANKS so much to Sandy, Jackie, Kathyrn and Mitch for all the time you've taken to investigate and reply to my request for information about John and Miriam Sapp. (Sandy if you type like me, that reply must have taken you a very long time :>)... .. it was full of useful information.) I just haven't had time to look at all the information closely and to evaluate it all yet. It is however, near the top of my list of things I want to get done. I was able to visit the FHC that just opened 6 miles from my home :>) the other day and have ordered film of the wills and administrative letters of Boone Co. I am hoping that may turn up something as well......I'll let you all know. Again, the people on this list are just great and I truly do appreciate all your help! Melody
LDS test site open again. Slow, but there. The Family History Catalog (if you click down through to it) is still passworded, so that can't be used, but at least it seems to be looking for surnames on that and the AF & IGI. I've hesitated to announce this one in case they plug this hole, but it's been available for a couple days so far. http://32.96.111.13/default.asp -- Kathryn Rhinehart Bassett (Pasadena CA) kathryn.bassett@switchboard.net "Genealogy is my bag" "GH is my soap" http://pw2.netcom.com/~kathrynb/kathryn.htm ICQ World-Wide-Pager address http://wwp.mirabilis.com/17663458
Hi Guys, here is the link for the LDS site that is up and running. I just tried it, but the server is to busy, and I would imagine it will stay that way for a while.-Bill http://32.96.111.13/default.asp
I keep forgetting to post this, but you can browse the records at this address: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ for Sapps in FL, AL, MS and LA. NONE in GA as yet. I have captured several records from the listings if someone doesn't browse, but can accept attachments. There are many other states that are on the webpage also.-Bill
Sandy, I am particulary interested in the John Sapp that was in Lincoln County 1819/1820. Mathew Sapp (my ggg-grandfather) was born in Lincoln County in 1822 and John is the only Sapp listed in Lincoln County near that time. The 1830, 1840, 1850 census lists no Sapps in Lincoln County. I find a John Sapp in the 30, 40 and 50 census for Boone County....with the 30 and 40 census having a son the appox age to be Mathew. The 1850 census tells me John's wife was Miriam. If this is the same John as the John in Lincoln Co. in 1820, he would have been only 18 when Mathew was born. I recall someone on this list or perhaps another mentioning a John Sapp who married his cousin Miriam Sapp. Also I have seen reference to the fact that John's father was Levi Sapp. According to the 1850 census John and Levi were both from Delaware. Mathew Sapp married Elizabeth Watts in Lincoln County in 1842. Where was Mathew and his parents for 20 years? Boone County? Lincoln County living with someone else? If you can give me any leads, theories, clues, I'd be very grateful. Thanks for your quick response to my request! Melody
Greeting to fellow SAPP hunters, I would very much like to communicate with anyone who is researching the line of John and Miriam Sapp of Boone Co. Missouri. I am looking for any lead that would connect them with my ggg-grandfather Mathew Sapp who was born in Lincoln County, Missouri. Please contact me if John and Miriam are in your family! Thanks for your help! Melody

I guess spreading the word made the site too busy because they now have a password on the site. Honest, it *did* work last night. Content: I was successful in looking up some things in the Family History Library Catalog. There was also a place to look up Ancestral File entries, however, it didn't seem to be linked yet as it kept giving a "not available" message (for people I knew were in the AF). Someone else mentioned the same problem with IGI. There were also lots of other links via catagories. Didn't seem like those catagories were to stuff of their own, but just providing links. The site started slowing down a lot so I wasn't able to experiment too much. Point is, this is going to be great once they finish their evaluations and refinements. -- Kathryn Rhinehart Bassett (Pasadena CA) kathryn.bassett@switchboard.net "Genealogy is my bag" "GH is my soap" http://pw2.netcom.com/~kathrynb/kathryn.htm ICQ World-Wide-Pager address http://wwp.mirabilis.com/17663458

That is the problem with a mailing list, you have to send mail to get mail. I have enough problems with the equipment, I don't have much time to do any research, but I have had a couple of inquiries from other queries I have posted. Being the listowner doesn't gurantee that anyone will post. I apologize for not devoting more time to the list, but I do have four others, and three webpages and a thousand other reasons, but the main one is that everyone is tired of looking at my dead end ancestor, Henry Sapp. William Boulineau Rootsweb Sponsor boulinea@antigopro.net
I hope everyone is doing okay, I am still having problems with the computer, but I think I got my ISP changed over okay. I have to change some more addresses but I will not get them all changed over, I have queries posted everywhere. I haven't seen much activity on the list lately, don't know if it is my fault or what, but this is to see if I get my replies from the right address. Hi guys, change my address to: boulinea@antigopro.net Bill Boulineau
Just received the Boone Co MO 1853 Atlas which shows name and date of original acquisition of all parcels in Boone Co from about 1820-1850-2. Sapps are: Henry (2 parcels), Jno. (3 parcels), Jno. C., John, Matthew, Noah (2 parcels), Peter, Peter, Jr. Sam'l, Thomas, Thos., Wm.. Also shown are Isaac and Samuel Wilcoxson. Samuel's daughter, Tabitha, married Berryman Wren Sapp, John's (son of Levi) son. If you have another name you think might have been in Boone Co by 1853 and want it checked , e-mail me. Interesting to see the families which settled together. Jackie Veen
