I apologize for the inconvenience, but I knew I would goof this up somewhere. When I asked if anyone wanted a copy of the Extracted Files, I forgot to mention that you should let me know the family, I have five-seven lists I manage to goof up from time to time. If you get mail asking for the name of the family, that is why. Sorry-Bill
I'm sorry, but I don't have the marriages for FL. Sorry for the inconvenience.-Bill
I have extracted the following files and if you want a copy, just e-mail me with the ones you want. Some of the files are quite large, 100KB or more, and if you use Juno, you can't handle attachments. If you can use PKZip files, that will make it a lot easier. If you don't know what PKZip is, you can't handle them. If the files are to large for you, contact me and we will try to make some kind of arrangement. Glad some of you guys were able to get PAF 4.0, they are supposed to have it on CD's sometime next year, the program will still be free, but you have to pay for the S & H. I don't use it, but I had just purchased a copy of PAF 3.0, because some of you use it and to make sure that I can trade data with you, when we have info to exchange. I use Family Origins, but I do like the new PAF. I also have FTM 6.0, for the same reason, can't miss any chances. I only had a problem with one file, and that was with FTM, so I got a copy of that. Usually there is not any problem exchanging files with Gedcom, but some of us aren't as good with exchanging data, and you can be surprised with what you get sometime. It is very hard to be compatible with everyone, my wife continually reminds me of that.:>)-Bill

John, I've been gone, too. I did get PAF 4.0 installed and picking up the 2.31 data. Haven't had much time to use it, though. Thanks, Jackie
Hi Bill and Jackie, Bill, Thanks for the heads-up on PAF4 being available for a free download. I am a long-time PAF 2.31 and PAF 3.0 user, so was anxious to try version 4. It is *BEAUTIFUL*. (we just got back from a 2-weeks vacation, and my mails have piled up is why I am so late in answering this). I created a new PAF4 directory to download into, but the program created its own directory during the installation. Thats OK. You are correct, don't download or install into your PAF3 directory, that might create problems. Jackie, from my briefly reading the instructions, this program reads PAF3 files directly, but earlier PAF files, and foreign files (non-PAF) must be converted. There are instructions (on your computer), using the IMPORT command. Relatively easy. I downloaded and installed PAF4, and then thought I would import a PAF3 file to it. No Need. It just went over to my PAF3 directory, and read the file I asked for, didn't need to convert it or anything. (Apparently you do have to convert PAF 2.31 files) To me, it looks like a very nice revision. It seems to be about the same content wise, but the display is a very slick Windows version, where PAF3 was still a DOS-looking affair. It does have a modified register printout capability, that I don't remember from before. It handles graphics and pictures, and and promises a companion printer capability, yet to come. To me, it is a very nice presentation, with the availability to use the mouse or the keyboard, whichever the user desires. I also like the idea of using a program written by the same folks who write the specifications for gedcom files, and who bring us all the wonderful FamilySearch data. It is a much more compact program than Family Tree for Windows. I really like it (as you can probably tell). Friends, I found where I made my mistake in trying to convert data from PAF 2.31 to PAF 4.0. When it asked a name for the converted data file, I named it "PAF 4 Data" and it set up a file named that, but no data in it. When I went back and just used the same old "indiv2.dat" for the name, it set up that file WITH the data. Thanks to Bill for all his info trying to help me. Jackie Veen
