    3. Does anyone have information on a connection between these two Sapp families of Georgia: descendants of Levi S. SAPP, Revolutionary Soldier of Georgia (1761-1854) and descendants of Henry SAPP, born ca. 1785, Burke Co., GA, who married in 1814, Jane Woodcock, Bulloch Co., GA, born abt. 1786? Also, I am researching my GG grandmother Safronia (or Saphronia) Sapp of Georgia, daughter of Henry Sapp (1828-1909) and Susan Miller (1833-1914). (This is not the Saphronia Sapp that Bill Hancock asked about earlier.) Safronia married John Omans before 1888. They had (at least) 5 children: Maggie, Ella, John, Joseph and Ellen, and lived around Brooks County, Georgia. I have been able to find information on Safronia's siblings, but very little on her. Can anyone help? Also, any other information on this line (descended from Levi S. Sapp, Revolutionary Soldier) would be appreciated. Thanks. Rebecca Bichel bichel@penn.com

    3. I have just sent out another batch of files, but I delete all the sent records, the attachments add up after about 20 e-mails. If you didn't get what you wanted, or the files you requested, don't be bashful, let me know and I will get them out. The census records are indexes, not the actual census record. The marriage records give the date and place of marriage. By sharing information on a given surname, you can compile a vast quanity of information and share each others research. I live in WI, all my family lives in GA. It is tough trying to get to a cemetery to get dates off a tombstone, or even find the cemetery. I have obtained a lot of research documents, none that help me, of course, but they do help others trying to locate ancestors. I have a lot of co-lateral lines on my family, most go back further than my line, so you never know when you can help someone. KEEP IT UP!!!.-Bill

    1. Sapp Database
    2. Bill Boulineau
    3. I would like to remind everyone that I did not do the legwork to get the info that is in the Gedcom. Many of the people on this list contributed most of the information, and we all benefit from that. If you want to help, contribute to this list and everyone will share in the research. Using someone else's research carries the burden of helping in kind. Round two: I have Sapp vital records files extracted from the N American series of CD's, as well as 1850-1870 census records for the SE US. If you want a copy of these files, let me know. They vary in size, 5KB up to over 200KB, the larger ones are PKZipped files, just like the Gedcom. If you don't have a copy of PKZip, you should have and learn how to use it. Some of these databases are quite large, and takes tons of time to download, zip files cut them at least in half. If you use a Mac, you may have problems with the files, as usually you can only share text files, unless us use a DOS emulator. One Mac user does, maybe they would consider transfering the files for you. Let me know if you want a copy, some are birth, some are marriage, same gurantee, NONE!!-Bill

    1. Gedcom Importing
    2. Bill Boulineau
    3. To those of us that are not very computer savvy, I offer the following: To import a Gedcom file into PAF 4.0, do the following: 1. Determine in advance, where you stored the new Gedcom file, all_sapp.ged. You must know which folder you have saved this file in order to import it. 2. Start the PAF program. 3. At the top menu, click on File, select New. 4. A Create New Family File window opens, the default Save in: should be the folder Data. 5. In the File name: box, give the file a name, ie: All Sapp 6. The Save as type: box will indicate "PAF 3 or 4 (*.paf) 7. Click on the Save button. 8. A new window will open allowing you to enter your personal date, ie, name, address, etc. You DO NOT have to enter any information, but you can. When you have entered or not entered your personal data, click on the OK button. 9. You now have a new, empty database, named All Sapp. At the top of the window, click on File, select Import. 10. An Import GEDCOM File window opens, and the first box, Look in:, you must select the file folder in which you saved the all_sapp.ged file. Select the folder, and a listing will open showing all the *.ged files. Select the all_sapp.ged file, click on the OK button and the file will be imported into your new database. 11. When the importing is complete, a new file will open showing all the errors that occuring during the import. DON'T PANIC!!, just close the file and you will be at the opening screen of the new All Sapp database. 12. To see the names of all the people in the database, at the top menu, click on Search, then click on Individual List. FTM is a little more tricky, but neither is hard. When you do it a couple of times, you will be an expert. If you have problems with the importing, let me know, with specifics. Don't tell me you can't import the file, tell me where you are when you don't understand what to do, and the name of the program you are using. I use Win98, so if you don't tell me that also. Please save this until you know how to import Gedcom files.-Bill

    3. I think I have sent out the Gedcom to all who requested it. If you did and didn't get it, let me know and I will try again. As a matter of note, I don't have much info on Sapps after about 1870's, except for my specific line. If someone sends me a Gedcom, I will put it in the database, but if it is printed, I usually just file it with the other Sapps. If you don't find your ancestor in the Gedcom, it doesn't mean they don't exist, they are just not in the database. If you want them in the database, send me a Gedcom, otherwise, my fingers are only about half the length they used to be, getting shorter all the time.-Bill

    3. Welcome rjamest@ & ,DLange6564@. to the SAPP-L list. We are busily trying to link our ancestors and would appreciate any info you may have to help us with this task. There are a couple of websites dealing with the Sapp family, which the webmasters will be glad to post to the list. In the unlikely event they don't, you can visit my webpage at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~boulinea/home.html and there is a link to a great Sapp page, give it a look and maybe you will be able to find the missing ancestor. 3. I have an all_sapp.ged, Gedcom file, of the various Sapp information others on this list have sent to me. Some of the lines are connected, lots of them are not. I keep the database, and when I find new Sapps, from about 1850's back to the early 1700's, I enter the information in the database. All the connections are made that I am aware of. There is NO (repeat NO) documention for most of the links and dates given. It is not a repeat of the books on the Sapps that have been written, ie; Sapp Families of North Carolina 1763-1853, or A Few Steps Back with the Sapp Family, or A History of the Sapp Family. Some of the names I have are also in the books, but the information is not taken from the books. Where I could, I have tried to verify some of the material with the published books, but not very much lends itself to this. Many researchers have contributed bits of information to this database, and I am afraid I have not always documented their efforts, but in the interest of Sapp research, and in the spirit which I received the info, I will be glad to send to anyone that wants a copy, the all_sapp.ged. It will be sent as an attachment, a self-extracting Zip file, Sapp.exe. It is approx. 300KB in size, compressed to about 90KB. You must have a Gedcom compatable genealogy program to use this file. Please don't ask me who is in the file, there are approx. 2722 individuals in the file, most of them Sapps, others are relations. If you would like a copy, let me know. I also have files of Sapp vitals, marriage, births, extracted from CD's, such as census, etc.-Bill
