My line is from Henry Sapp (abt. 1785-bef 1760) and Sarah Woodcock. I have tried to link My Henry with the earlier Sapps from Burke Co., since they are the earliest Sapps recorded in GA. There is a generation between my Henry and the earlier bunch. The earliest census in which my Henry shows up is the 1820, and the 1850 census says he was born in Burke Co., now all I need is his father, which I believe to be one of the earlier (5-6) Sapps that received Crown Grants, starting about 1766. John is supposed to be the father of one William "Squire' Sapp, who had a large plantation in Burke Co., and was the brother of the others, Henry, Levi, Elijah, Jesse, Abraham. Only hearsay.-Bill

John, Regarding Thomas and Nancy Sapp dying on the same day in 1838 in Henry Co, IN, and the family speculation that they may have died in a cholera epidemic; I think the quick death caused by cholera would lead you to suspect this. The same thing happened to my my own ancestor John Sapp, who lived in Salem, Washington Co, IN. In 1833 John and his wife Isabel died within 50 minutes of each other of cholera in the local epidemic of June-July 1833 and were both buried in the same coffin. George Sapp...
As I believe it to be, my line from Henry Sapp is: Henry Sapp and Remilicent Unknown were parents of Elizabeth Remillicent Sapp. Archibald Spears and Sarah Unknown were parents of Archibald C. Spears lst (born about 1765 in S. Carolina). Archibald C. Spears lst married Elizabeth Remillicent Sapp about 1794 in Georgia, and they had four children, the last born being Archibald C. Spears II, my GG Grandfather. Archibald the 2nd married Elizabeth Nelson on 27 January 1827, they had four daughters and seven sons. One of the sons, my G. Grandfather, John Thomas Spears, was born 14 October 1847. He married Sarah Jane Edwards on l February 1881, and they had eight children, one of which was my Grandfather, Archibald C. Spears. Archibald, my grandfather married Fronie Robinson on 5 May 1907, and they had two sons, one of which was my Father, Raymond Spears. Am I correct, does this make Henry Sapp my Maternal 4 G Grandfather? Herschell Spears in East Texas. hebe@peoplescom.net
Regarding Thomas and Nancy Sapp dying on the same day, my family speculates that they may have died in a cholera epidemic. They also had a daughter who died shortly thereafter. John

Refer to E-mail from John Sapp of 9 Nov 99, Subj: Research SAPP, George. This E-mail states that Thomas Sapp and his wife died on the same day. It has been confirmed that Henry Sapp (my 4G ) and wife Remillicent at age 83 and 93 died on the same day in Twiggs County, Ga. What's with those old Sapps, dying on the same day as their spouse? Bill - Has there been any further info located on Henry's father suspect, Capt/Major John SAPP, born about 1718. Was he in the Great Britain military? Thanks again for the info: HENRY SAPP, a Revolutionary Hero. Herschell and Betty Spears. hebe@peoplescom.net
I don't have any proof that he was the son of John Sapp, just speculation. He is supposed to have been one of the several brothers that received Crown Grants in GA about 1766. I would have to guess that John was in the US Militia of some type, I can't prove that he was even in the Military, just a family group sheet with that info on it, not proven, just stated. Hi Serena, Just took a look at my version of the John Sapp/Abbie Willis descendants and find that we are in substantial agreement. I can see you've done quite a bit of research and appreciate the notes you've provided. Most of my information for this particular branch comes from the Sapp/Stanley "A History of the Sapp Family". From the look of your data, you must have either had access to it, or to some other source which depended on it. Sapp/Stanley gives no sources so I feel everything they say needs to be independently verified. What verification I've been able to do shows it to be fairly complete as far as it goes (up to about 1910), and reasonably accurate. Since my own line comes from John Sapp's first family with his first wife Hettie Barcus, I haven't spent too much time with Abbie's family. That said, I'll point out the few areas of minor divergence from Sapp/Stanley and fill in a couple of other minor details I've found in delving through microfilms. 1) John Sapp and Abigail Willis were married on 29 Aug 1821. This comes from the marriage record on page 236 in the Jefferson Co. probate court marriage records as recorded on LDS film #0900072. 2) Elias L. Thomas b. 5 Oct 1821, d. 23 June 1886. (Sapp/Stanley) 3) Henry B. Thomas, b. 30 Nov 1850. (Sapp/Stanley) 4) Sarepta Annie Pool b. 20 Nov 1852 according to Sapp/Stanley. Your information looks more credible. 5) Sapp/Stanley lists six children for John R. Sapp and Sarepta Pool: Charles A. Sapp, b. 24 Apr 1879, resided near Toronto, OH Ross Wilbur Sapp, b. 19 May 1880, m. Anna (?) 11 Nov 1908 Loyd L. Sapp, b. 14 Jul 1881, resided at Toronto, OH John Edgar Sapp, b. 9 Dec 1882, m. Elma J. Wiles 9 Dec 1909, resided in Toronto, OH Elbert L. Sapp, b. 13 Sep 1893, resided with parents until around 1910 (twin) Joseph M. Sapp, b. 13 Sep 1893, resided with parents until around 1910 (twin) 6) Sapp/Stanley lists one child for George C. Sapp and Catherine Herald: Nancy I. Sapp, b. 21 Jul 1888 7) Sapp/Stanley lists one child for James Sylvester Sapp and Belle Johnston: Elizabeth J. Sapp, b. 20 Mar 1881, m. Orville S. Wilson. 8) Ruth Ann Sapp and John Crawford were married 1 Jul 1847 in Jefferson County. This comes from the marriage records, vol. 6 on page 203 in the Jefferson Co. probate court marriage records as recorded on LDS film #0900073. 9) James William Crawford, b. 30 May 1850. (Sapp/Stanley) 10) Josiah J. Crawford resided in Knoxville prior to 1910. (Sapp/Stanley) 11) Daniel Sapp, b. 13 Sep 1830, d. Feb 1856 in California. 12) Sapp/Stanley lists four children for Laura Estella Sapp and Grant Eggleston: Robert Eggleston William Eggleston Nelson Eggleston Cynthia Ann Eggleston 13) Sapp/Stanley gives two middle names in two different places for Hiram Sapp: Edward and Edwin. As noted, these are pretty minor. Regards, John Sapp

The John Sapp (41) and Hettie Barcus described in A History of the Sapp Family are my 4G Grandparents. Some preliminary analysis of censuses, land transactions, and tax records have led to the tentative conclusions that George (142) was John & Hettie's first child and was born sometime between 1784 and 1790 in either Allegany Co., MD, or Bedford Co., PA. An 1820 census entry for Knox Twp., Jefferson Co., OH, shows a George Sapp, age 26-45, living not far from John Sapp. After that census listing, I've not found further evidence of George. I am afraid I owe a lot of you an apology, I have just discovered that most of my all_sapp.ged is from the Line "C", of the ''A History of the Sapp Family'', 1910, J. Gooden Sapp and R. W. Stanley. I had input the data from family group sheets, and while there is more data than in the book, the line is definately from Line "C". It's amazing what you can see when you stare long enough.-Bill
I have looked for George in the only sources I have, and can't find anylthing conclusive, but A History of the Sapp Family, places a (Line A) John (41), s/o George(22), pp. 13, in Ohio, Jefferson Co., with a son George(142) and a younger sonThomas(152), but there is no info on George(142), and Thomas(152 ) and his wife died the same day, but doesn't indicate when or where.. Siblings: based on Census extraction from Ohio 1860 census. Sarah b.1821. James b.1813. George b. 1819. Thomas b. 1817. Of note are the following: James lists Lydia Sapp as living in the same household as his. James, Lydia, Sarah and George's family lived with-in a relatively short buggy ride of each other. Thomas moved a little further southwest into Meigs County but still with-in a days trip of the others. George bought land from Thomas Sapp approximately 5-10 years after he was married. This appears to be the best lead we have regarding the matter of George's parentage. Four reasearchers are stumped! We assume that we should begin searching in Jefferson and Knox County Ohio. Possible links are appreciated.

My site at [http://members.aol.com/jacomeena/index.html] has a John Jordan Sapp listed. His parents are listed as Zachariah Sapp (b. Abt 1798 in NC, d. Aft 1880 in TN) & Priscilla B. Skillern. The source I have listed is "Sapp-L", so I must have gotten the info from someone on this list. Regards, Mike Sapp
