This is another answer about Mime Subj: RE: Mime???? Date: 97-08-11 21:59:28 EDT From: [email protected] (Short, Dennis R.) To: [email protected] ('[email protected]') Sandra, This is usually a mail gateway problem between rootsweb and the user. MIME is multipurpose Internet multimedia extensions. MIME maps certain file extensions to the related software. MIME is most often encountered in Web Browsers but more mail systems [ MS Exchange] are using MIME to control and identified an attached or embedded [multimedia] files. MIME for example understands that .DOC is a MS Word file or other extensions such as RTF. If the user is AOL , AOL recently did major mail gateway. It is also possible for an inexperienced user to disable MIME on their mail program. This is usually controlled in the options or setup area of the program. Turning off attachments can also cause problems. If the digest has become longer than normal, some mail gateways will turn the text file into a message with one or more attachments that are MIME encoded. This can also cause problems if the mail gateway or users reader is not configured properly. Dennis Prof. Dennis R. Short Purdue University 1419 Knoy Hall, Rm. 363 W.
