Hello Sanford cousins, I've been watching the list for a very long time hoping that my Penelope would surface and have just visited one of the great Sanford websites. With such a group of researchers, surely someone knows my Penelope. My Penelope SANFORD was the wife of Haden EDWARDS (Haden born 1716) of Stafford and Prince William Cos., VA. Penelope and Haden Edwards relocated to Bourbon Co. KY where Haden left a will in 1803 naming Penelope and his children, viz: l. John Edwards, US Senator 1792 (m. Susannah WROE); 2. Penelope Edwards (m. William POPE); 3. Benjamin Edwards (m. Margaret BEALL); 4. Sanford Edwards; 5. Nancy Edwards (m. Charles WILLIAMS); 6. Mary Edwards (m. Wm. ASHMORE); 7. Elizabeth Edwards (my line-m. John CHANCELLOR); 8. George Edwards (m. ELizabeth MONROE). I have unsubstantiated material that says Penelope Sanford came, probably with her brother John, from England to VA in 1735. It goes on to say that Penelope and John Sanford were children of Humphrey Sanford of England and grandchildren of Sir Humphrey Sanford.
