You will find him listed as a descendant of Robert Sanford (Thomas' brother), under "Other Pioneer Sanfords; Robert Sanford (Pioneer)" on pages 1339-40. The entry for Nathan starts as follows: "56. NATHAN[5] SANFORD (Thomas 27, Thomas 16, Ezekiel 4, Robert 1) b. Nov 5, 1777; d. Oct 17, 1838, at Flushing, LI; m. (1) Eliza Van Horn; m (2) Mary E. Isaacs of New Haven, CT; m (3) Mary Buchanan of Baltimore, MD. "His father dying when he was young, he was reared by his mother's people. He attended school in Clinton Academy in East Hampton. He entered Yale College in 1793, where he remained two years. In 1799, he was admitted to the bar in NYC. Early in his career he dropped the first "d" in the name Sandford "to save time," as he put it. In 1800, he was appointed a commissioner in bankruptcy. In 1803 he became the US Attorney for the southern district of NY, which position he held for twelve years ..." Does the Robert Sanford Genealogy have Ezekiel's line? Carlton indicates he moved to Southampton, Suffolk, NY from Hartford, CT as a young man, and added that "d" that Nathan (and some others) later dropped. David L.
