I have very little on John; he is not known to be related to the Sanford brothers (Thomas/Robert/Andrew) from whom I descend. However, he IS mentioned in the appendix to Carlton Sanford's work "Thomas ... the Emigrant ..." with over 170 of his descendants. The beginning of Carlton's entry for him reads as follows (Vol. 2, p. 1386): "1. JOHN SANFORD (SAMPFORD), son of Samuel and Eleanor Sampford of Alford, Lincolnshire, England, d. 1653, Portsmouth, RI; m. (1) Elizabeth Weed, sister of Henry, a rich Boston merchant; m. (2) Bridget, daughter of William and Ann Hutchinson ..." The entry continues for the better part of a page, and is followed by numerous sources. As Carlton published in 1911, and John was not on the top of his list, I do not know how accurate his information is. Please let me know if any of this is helpful.
