The Builders of the Nation..Compiled from the National Cyclopaedia of American Biography..1893 Sanford, nathan, was born in Bridgehampton, JY Nov 5, 1777, was educated at Yale College, became a practising lawyer in New York City and filled a number of Local offices. From 1803 to 1816 he was U S District Attorney, filling also during the same period the positions of member of assembly, an member of the state senate of NY. He was elected US Senator as a Democrat adn served from 1815 to 1821. He succeded James Kent as Chancellor for the state of New York, and from 1826 to 1831 was again US Senator. He died in Flushing NY Oct. 17, 1838
