    3. This is related to a message that appeared here today. This message is one I actually sent to another list. I think you will recognize it. ===================================================== I would strongly suggest that in the future we all resist taking in such messages and forwarding them to every mailing list we are on. There are probably 2 or 3 lists this really belonged on. This reminds me of the email messages that get sent out once in a while saying something like "DO NOT OPEN EMAIL MESSAGES WITH A SUBJECT OF "GOOD TIMES"" or words to that effect. The giveaway is that they suggest you forward it to everyone you know. This causes an explosion of copies of this email. In the case of the "Email Virus" warning, it is completely bogus. In the case of this "soldiers discharge papers" message, I really don't know, but the point is that it should be restricted to the places it really is likely to turn up a descendant. Here's why you should resist sending this on. You can see by the headers that this particular copy has been forwarded to at least 9 or 10 other lists. I think I have seen this message 8 or 10 times now. If each of those lists has 500 members then this message has gone out to 4000 to 50000 people. Now if each of them send it on to two other lists, BOOM! It is very tempting to find this message compelling. We all wish that something like this would turn up for one of our ancestors, and we hate to think of it sitting there in the hands of some unrelated soul. But think twice about forwarding anything to a list that urged you to forward it on. Well intentioned or not, it can cause problems for the list servers, etc. Hope this helps. Please don't forward this to every list you are on. <GRIN> Gil ------------------------ From: [email protected] Subject: [BARKER-L] Soldier Mark Crosby descending line Date: Mon, 16 Nov 1998 18:05:33 +0000 To: [email protected] This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------19EB4FC92B6B Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit FOUND Soldier's paper's in picture frame at estate sale.
