You might want to check into information about the city, Americana, in Brazil. According to the book, "The Brazilians", by Joseph A. Page, page 101, he tells about the encouragement of German immigration.. He wrote, "In addition, after the American Civil War, the emperor offered inducements that attracted as many as twenty thousand white southerners from the United States. Some settled in the Amazon region, but the majority made their way to the state of Sao Paulo, where they founded the town of Americana."
