He was the son of Amos Sanford (1798-1873), who is in the 7th. generation of descendants of Thomas Sanford (1607-1681), the 'Immigrant' from England in the 1630's. Calvin C. Sanford and Mary Denny (Brown) Sanford, had 8 children, all born at Mocksville, NC., from 1872 to 1888.: William Lafayette, Thomas Franklin, Rufus Brown, Edwin Cowles, Laura, Hugh Adams, John Calvin, and Mary Louise SANFORD.
