Colonel E. J. SANFORD, superintendent of the union depot, yesterday received a letter from the Pullman Car company informing him that one of the new sleepers which had been turned out of the shops at Pullman had been named "Sanford" in his honor. Mr. SANFORD was a brakeman on the Chicago and Alton railway when George M. PULLMAN started his first sleeping car on that road. The letter states that this was the reason for conferring this honor upon him. The "Sanford" will run between St. Louis and Washington. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ====================================================== neirbo4
