My grandfather was Bruce Sanford, ggrandfather was John B. Sanford (born c. 1875 in Minnesota or South Dakota). John's father was Daniel. So far, I know about Daniel is that he died on a cattle drive from Mitchell County Kansas to the Black Hills, Wyoming Territories in 1864. While my grandparents were alive, I recall them saying part of the family may have come from the Lorain Ohio area. Thanks for any help you can give. Sue.

It is a long shot, but possible: Daniel Sanford was born to Charles Clark Sanford and Mary Smead on 17 FEB 1813, in Halcottsville, Delaware Co., NY. He seems to have gone to Illinois (where his first child was born in 1841) and then moved to Wisconsin, where he was for the 1850 Census. He is next to be found in Beloit, Mitchell County, Kansas in the 1880 Census. The only part of this that I have any confidence in is that Carlton Sanford, in his work "Thomas Sanford", lists him (#3966) with date of birth and the note that he moved to Wisconsin as a young man. The rest is from browsing the census ... by another Sanford List Member. Nonetheless, the possibility of this Daniel being father to yours seems like a starting place.
