He had brothers? Harry, Charlie, and George. I know there was a half sister named Florence Elizabeth, born March 15, 1909. Arthur and his brothers were placed in foster care but I'm not sure if all of them were in the same state. I do know that Arthur was in the Iowa Children's Home Society before 1909. I am trying to find out what happened to Arthur after he left my greatgrand parents home where he was a foster child till he was 17. Thanks!

It is a long shot, but possible: Daniel Sanford was born to Charles Clark Sanford and Mary Smead on 17 FEB 1813, in Halcottsville, Delaware Co., NY. He seems to have gone to Illinois (where his first child was born in 1841) and then moved to Wisconsin, where he was for the 1850 Census. He is next to be found in Beloit, Mitchell County, Kansas in the 1880 Census. The only part of this that I have any confidence in is that Carlton Sanford, in his work "Thomas Sanford", lists him (#3966) with date of birth and the note that he moved to Wisconsin as a young man. The rest is from browsing the census ... by another Sanford List Member. Nonetheless, the possibility of this Daniel being father to yours seems like a starting place.

I know the Stone Mountain, (GA) festivities used to include an enactment of an indian battle. The first time we went there, back in the 1950's or 60's, my children were frightened.

Does anyone believe there is a family connection between the Samford family descended from James Samford, NorthFarnham, Richmond, VA. and the Thomas Sanford family of Mass. Given names in both lines are quite similar. Both families were in different counties of VA. James died 1703 in Richmond Co. VA. Believed to have been born about 1624, some say Northumberland VA. Married Mary __________. Children were Thomas, Mary, Samuel, Alicia, and Catherine. Some say that he had a brother named Thomas Samford. I am interested in your thoughts and/or suppositions, if any. Thanks, Barbara

Hi List, I am new to the list and my big question is "What was Ann's maiden name.?" I just discovered that Robert and Ann SANFORD were the parents of my ancestress, Mary SANFORD, who m. John Camp, Sr.abt. 1671 in Hartford. I then discovered the Families of Early Hartford, by Barbour, which says Ann was the dau. of Jeremy ADAMS. Savage's Dictionary also has this information. Then I discovered two more recent sources which prove that Ann was not the dau. of Jeremy ADAMS. Those sources were, Anderson's The Great Migration Begins, under Jeremy Adams, p. 6-11, and Carlton Sanford's Thomas Sanford, the emigrant to New England, p.1335 (in the appendix of the book). Both sources give the explanation of why Ann was not the daughter of Jeremy. What they don't tell me is, who is Ann's father. Hoping there is someone out there who might help with this question. Also hoping that all those people who have Jeremy Adams as Ann's father will take time to read the above mentioned sources so that the wrong information does not spread any further. Thank you so much for the Haden follow up!!
Subj:Haden Edwards (Sanford descendant) Date:9/14/2002 3:40:13 PM Eastern Daylight Time From:msinitiere@earthlink.net To:san1937@aol.com Sent from the Internet (Details) This is just an "aside." I am not a Sanford myself. But I notice that your data base includes a Haden (or Hayden) Edwards, son of John Edwards, grandson of Haden Edwards and Penelope Sanford Edwards of Kentucky. Your note for the younger Haden states that he "is said to have moved to TX." In fact, both Haden and his brother Benjamin played a fairly significant role in early Texas history. Haden was the empresario of the Edwards Colony, and both he and his brother were "players" in the Fredonian Rebellion. Any researcher interested in knowing more about these men, particularly Haden, would have no difficulty getting information via the Internet. The Online Handbook of Texas would be a good place to start. Just thought I would mention, in the event any of the Sanford researchers are interested. ---- Judith Sinitiere, Lafayette, LA
