Trythenia was married to George Evans Lawrence and, according to her death record, her parents were Joseph and Sarah Sandford (different spelling). Various records have different spellings for the given name, including Tryphena, but until I can prove differently, I am going with the name on the death record as that is the only documention I have so far other than census records (and those are not always accurate). I will also continue to check out any Tryphena Sanfords, particularly the one born in 1786. The message on Cousin Connect (referenced in your reply) is an earlier one of mine. I am grateful for the help I receive from other genealogists and thank you again for writing.

I don't have the website, but you can probably find it by using www.google.com and putting in < "gideon sanford" genealogy > as the search terms. It's how I usually go about finding web sites. I also search the e-mail archives at rootsweb.com. My SANFORDs definitely lived in Lorain, OH from around the 1890's on - I lived there myself for two years. They came in through MD, to VA, then WV, where my particular Sanford family, having five Methodist minister brothers, branched out "to spread the word". My grandfather apparently accompanied his father, a traveling minister, to Lorain. If you also had/have relatives in Lorain, I might be a little help to you. Please feel free to e-mail me. Hi Ann, There is a website for this SANFORD branch. Do you happen to have the address? If I recall correctly, there was a Gideon SANFORD listed. Is there any possibility for descendants of Gideon to be living in Rensselaer County, NY around 1800? Richard
The only Sanfords I have are back in the 1600s in CT. Sorry. That happens when you get older, I've heard. Actually, the ONLY information I have about my connections with the Sanfords is my GGM was Nancy Jamie Sanford, approx dob was 1854 somewhere in GA. Family lore states her name was Jamie Sanford, but the 1900 census lists her as Nancy J, and 1910 shows her as Jamie. So I conclude she was a Nancy Jamie (pretty astute, huh?). Family lore continues with the story GGF left NC with a traveling show, so they could have met anywhere. There are alot of Sanfords in the Milledgeville, GA area, which was the state capital and largest city before the War of Northern Aggression, so I would imagine any traveling show would have stopped there. Other than that, a different rumor was GGF killed a man & left NC, so everyone MAY have changed their names and I'm looking for a family line that doesn't really exist. But lets not even consider exploring THAT possibility. See any connections that fit?

I have a missing Mary Sanford born at about the time yours was. This Mary Sanford was born in Henderson Co, TN around 1826 to a Sanford family that settled there about 1820 after coming from Greenville, SC. Tom...about all we know about Mary or Marianne Sanford is from census records by her 8 children....some say she was born in Tenn and others say it was Alabama. Her husband John Jackson Martin was killed in Alabama about l862....Mary and the 8 known children arrived in Freestone Co Texas between l865 and l870. Mary died there in l878. When she homesteaded land in Freestone Co in l870 the land was located adjacent to land owned by Alkanah Sanford, born l808 in Lexington Co SC. I have been unable, however, to tie Mary Sanford in to this large Sanford family. John Kulbeth.

Unfortunately, that is all I can say, as there were no records kept of my family that far back. It seems that I am the first descendant from her family of 6 children (39 Grandchildren, etc.) that had any interest in the family's history. I feel much like the little red hen, as everyone in the family wants to know everything now, but nobody did anything and fewer still are helping me now. The only record I've located thus far is the 1900 & 1910 census' where she was married & living with the entire Wilson brood in Troup County, GA. The Troup Co probate court has the marriage licenses for three of her sons, but hers and an oldest daughter weren't. I assume that because of that, and because of a paucity of Sanfords in Troup County, she married & lived elsewhere originally, moving to West Central GA sometime before 1890. I cannot determine if her 1st child, a girl named Francis, came from her union with Mr. Wilson; but then again, I can't determine anything, so this remains par for the course. If nothing else, pray for me. I can only hope I recognize them all when we're called. Dave
