    3. Thanks for your reply on Porter B. Sanford and family. I'll send you my information on his brother's line [Burritt Fisher Sanford] down to myself as soon as I figure out how to send a GED-COM. Instructions say I'm supposed to ask whether you have a PC or a Mac. As for Burritt, I have wonderful treasures on his line, letters and photos from the 1840's. But Porter's always been a mystery. I know he stayed in Connecticut, where Burritt was born. And somewhere I found him coming west to Wisconsin in the 1890's to visit his brother, then dying of diabetes. Did Porter leave any letters? Do you know what his middle initial means? Mel Sanford

    2. John Sanford
    3. Dear Mel Sanford, Yes, Porter B. Sanford, and Burritt Fisher Sanford, were brothers and the sons of Ephraim and Sally (Sedgwick) Sanford of CT. (as shown below in the THIRD GENERATION). Since you inquired about Porter B. Sanford, I indicate here that he had three daughters as shown in the 2nd. generation. Their ancestral line back to Thomas Sanford 'The Immigrant', is: [Ephraim #795, Amos #300, Ephraim #104, Samuel #23, Thomas #5, to Thomas Sanford #1.] If you want more details on any of these, I would be happy to share much more, if you indicate what you wish. I'd like to see a copy of your record of the descendants of Burritt Sanford, at least to yourself, to add to the records that I now have. With kind regards, I hope to hear from you on this List, or direct to me. Sincerely, John D. Sanford, of CA. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Sanford, Miller, Stone, Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4FFBAIB/1004 Message Board Post: Source: Biographical Memoirs of Lenawee Co., 1909 Wardel W. Sanford, for many years a prosperous and highly esteemed agriculturist of Woodstock, is a native of that township, born Jan 7, 1837, on the old Sanford homestead. His father, Ezra Sanford, was born in Wales, Erie county, New York, and migrated to the Wolverine State in the year 1832, settling on sixty acres of land in the township of Woodstock, and this a few years later he exchanged for another tract of 160 acres. He subsequently sold forty acres of this, and upon the remaining 120 he continued to make his home for many years. He was ever an industrious thrifty and successful farmer, and politically he was active in Democratic circles, though never aspiring to public office. His wife, Anna (Miller) Sanford, was also a native of the Empire State. Wardel W. Sanford, of this review, acquired his educational training in the district schools of Woodstock, and then worked upon his father's and neighboring farms until he had passed the twenty-second anniversary of h! is birth, when he purchased eighty acres of land, which, with the 220 acres subsequently acquired, constitutes the acreage of the farm upon which he today resides. Like his honored sire, he also is affiliated with the Democratic party and he holds liberal views concerning religious matters. In March, 1861, he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Stone, daughter of Francis and Amelia Stone, both deceased, who were for many years residents of Germany and who immigrated in Michigan in an early day. To this happy union have been born seven children: Edith, Mary Minerva, William, George W., Lewis, Lena, and Theodore. Born in the old frontier days, when the numerous conveniences of modern life were entirely unknown to civilization, in a region then little more than a wilderness waste. Mr. Sanford, throughout his long and useful life has been a witness to the marvelous growth and progress of this section of the country; and though he experience many of the bitter trials and ! privations of those pioneer days he is today at the ripe age of seventy-two years, hale and hearty, and it is to be sincerely hoped that he may be spared to his family and the community in which he resides for many years to come.

    2. Richard Hayes
    3. Hello All, I haven't posted this family in a while, so I will try again. I have Gideon G. SANFORD who was born in Rensselaer County, NY about Sep 1809. He died 11 Mar 1881 in Fulton County, NY. He is buried in the Broadalbin Cem. with his second wife, Julia Ann VAN SLYKE. He had a son James Harvey SANFORD who was born in Dec 1834 and a son George E. SANFORD who was born about 1835. Both sons were probably born in Rensselaer County, NY. Gideon was in Fulton County before 1848 when he married Julia Ann VAN SLYKE. Does anyone have any information on Gideon G. SANFORD or his first wife? Both of Gideon's sons were in the Civil War. George died in 1865 and James died 2 Jul 1866 in Fulton County. Any information about this family would be helpful. Richard

    1. [SANFORD] Fauquier County VA Sanfords
    2. I am trying to locate information on the sanford families that lived in Fauquier County VA in the late 1700 and early 1800's. I am continuing a quest to determine the parents of Nancy Sanford who married Ferdinand Claggett in 1808 in Fauquier County. Nancy was of age i. e. 21 at the time of the marriage . Ferdinand's father did not approve of the marriage but grudgingly gave his consent. Since they were married in Fauquier that means that she was residing there at the time of her marriage. I can only find 2 Sandford households in Fauquier at that time, both of them headed by females. Betty who I believe was the widow of Richard who had died in 1798 . He had three sons Robert, John and WIlliam Bennett. Betty is found in the 1810 census with 3 males between the ages of 16-26 and one female over 45. I believe that Richard and his family moved To Fauquier about 1795 after buying 200 acres of land from Thomas Sanders. There si also a Nancey Sandford noted in the census ; she had 3 males under 10 , 2 males 16-26, 2 females 16- 26 and one female over 45. Either of these women would be old enough to be the mother of my Nancy Sanford Claggett. Therefore I am looking for info on Richard and Elizabeth Sanford to either rule them out or in as parents of Nancy. Is this the Richard son of Robert and Elizabeth Butler, Robert died 1769 in Firfax? Deed records in Fauquier say that he was of "Fairfax' The other question that I have is who is this Nancey. Whose widow is she? Her first name could be Ann as well since I have seen Nancy as a nickname for Ann during that time frame. To complicate matters Samuel Claggett Jr., Ferdinand married in 1816 Lucy Sanford in Fauquier. She died and he married Julia F Sanford of Prince William Co, daughter of Thomas and Keisah Sanford. Some researchers say that Lucy and Julia were sisters but I am not sure that this is the case. There is an indenture in Pr. Wm that definitely proves the parents of Julia but Lucy could just as easily be the sister of Nancy Sanfored Claggett and one of the females listed in Nancey sandford's home , especially since she was married in Fauquier County. Any info is appreciated tha would place any Sanfords in Fauquier in this time frame. Thank you Susan in CT
