His wife was Mary E. and he had a son, Daniel b. ca. 1867. I believe Mary E was the first wife of my gg grandfather, Edward W. Wood. Ed and Mary were in Taney Co MO in 1860 with their sons Columbus Burl, b.1862 and John, b. 1859. Burl is living with Eli and Mary in 1870 in Stoddard Co, and with Edward and his second wife, Amanda, in Carroll Co AR in 1880. Edward and Amanda return to Taney Co MO ca. 1881. This is quite a mystery and any help in solving it is greatly appreciated!

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4FFBAIB/1043.1 Message Board Post: Suzi: Your Thomas Sanford is a Junior. His father was Thomas Sanford but was not, as Carlton Sanford speculated, the Thomas Sanford Jr. son of Thomas and Amy, Hartford, CT. You will find that comment in Sanford's book about pages 1248/9. I think. Thomas (the elder) was a squatter in a town later named Weybridge, Vermont. The surveyor found him living there with house and fields in cultivation in 1774. I do not know when Thomas Jr. was born, nor where. I suspect Pittsfield or maybe even in New York. My 3rd ggf, Ira Sanford was the first child born in Weybridge about 1783. My search has been for Thomas. He has incorrectly been identified as the son of Thomas and Amy of Hartford. His wife has been identified as Suzannah Palmer. Those two did live and die in Hartford and it's all documented. I have never discovered Thomas' wifes name. I have never been able to find where he was born. In my searchings I believe both died and are buried in an area called Black Lake, in the town of Oswegatchie, St. Lawrence County, New York. Thomas' first daughter was Elizabeth and everything I have seen records her as having been born in Hartford, CT, 1762. I have my doubts about her place of birth. Her brother, Robert, was born in Horseneck, New Jersey, 1764. That place was renamed Caldwell in 1789. He stated that in his application for a Revolutionary War pension. Thomas Jr. and Lucy Kellogg were married in 1795 in Weybridge, Vermont. He and his father bought considerable property there in the years prior to 1800. One particular piece was property owned by the widow of the governor of New Hampshire, the man who arranged for many land grants in the area we now call Vermont. I am still looking for Thomas Sanford's place of birth and the name of his wife and, of course, his parents and on and on. Please let me know if I can be of any further help.

Family search and various copies of the material there claim that Patience Burrows is the daughter of John Burrows and Patience Hinman. Furthermore it claims that this John Burrows is the husband of Lydia Hubbard, and is having children with her at the same time that he is having children with Patience. Patience must have been patient indeed. I've heard that the marriage to Lydia for the John Burrows who is the son of John and Hannah (Colver) Burrows is good information. I conclude the marriage to Patience Hinman Is either: 1. Made up of whole cloth, 2. Concerns some other John Burrows who is not the son of John and Hannah (Colver) Burrows. Family search does offer another choice: John BURROUGHS (AFN: 1VH8-1FB) Sex: M Event(s): Birth: Abt. 1680 <Jamaica, Queens, New York> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: Edward BURROUGHS (AFN: G8T4-VM) Family Mother: Mary HIGBY (AFN: G8T3-JR) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriage(s): Spouse: Patience HINMAN (AFN: 49DJ-2J) If the latter, the birth and death dates are wrong too, since they go with the fellow who married Lydia. I have a CD of the Thomas Sanford - the Immigrant, so I know what it says, basically that David's wife was Patience Burrows, and nothing more, aside from the quit claim thing, which gives a clue where her parents might have lived. So my question is, is Patience Burrows the daughter of John Burrows and Patience Hinman? How do we know that? What John Burrows is that? I also want to point out that the ancestry given for our John Burrows in various places is probably wrong.

"David Sanford bap. Feb.24, 1711-12, Fairfield, Ct.; m. Jan.29, 1736 Patience Burrows in Stratfield, Ct., and paid the minister 10s. He was of Wallingford, Ct., (Meridan), where they joined the church, Dec. 31 1737. Was mentioned in his father's will. On Mar.27, 1738-9, David amd his wife, Patience, of Wallingford, quit claimed all their rights in the Burrows farm in Wallingford "near the stone house" to Timothy Jerome. There is an abundance of evidence that David, wife and fanily emigrated to Warwick, N.Y., and in about 1764. In fact, it is well known that they did. The sons, David, John, and Ezra appear in the U.S. Census of Warwick, taken in 1790. The descendants of the son Ezra, now residing in Warwick, have a memorandum that this David was a son of Samuel, who was a son of Samuel, of Thomas, the pioneer, but they can furnish no proof of the line, nor are they certain of it. James A. Kibble, a most reliable gennealogist, doubted from the first this line of descent, and, after searching diligently for the purpose at Fairfield, Wallingfrod, Stratford, &c, became not only satisfied but convinced that this David was really and in fact a son of Thomas, who was a sone of Ezekiel of Thomas, the pioneer. Several minor incidents as well confirm this lineage." -from Thomas Sanford, by Carlton B. Sanford

Probate records should have what you need. Please clarify: her father's line is inconsistent, or her husband's? There is mention of a controversy surrounding David's ancestry in this entry, with the bottom line being the author believes David's line to be Thomas #12, Ezekiel #2, Thomas #1. (Some claimed then, 1911, that the line was Samuel, Samuel, Thomas.)

I have the reproduction of "Thomas Sanford ...", by Carlton Sanford, 1911 from Higginson. From time to time, this creates a problem. Some of the pages in the book that they copied are not legible (they were damaged before it was copied.) My specific problems today are pages (Vol. I) 101-102 and 167-168. Naturally, these are the the two worst leaves in the entire set. Does anyone know if the pages have been posted on the internet anywhere? Baring that, is there a chance that someone with the original could scan these and email them to me? I will gladly post them on my website for all. Thanks in advance, Cousin Dave
Hello All, I have been trying to find the parents of Gideon SANFORD who was born in Rensselaer County about Sep 1809. When I went to the census records for 1810, I found 2 SANFORDS living in Rensselaer County. One was Daniel SANFORD and the other was Brownet SANFORD. Daniel had 2 sons under 10; Brownet had one. In 1820 Daniel Sanford was living in Stephentown. Brownet SANFORD was listed as Brownell SANFORD and was living in Sand Lake. Does anyone have any information on either of these families?
